ARG Player’s Championship: Winner’s Bracket Final Luke Feeney (KAT) vs. Ned Salkovitch (HAT)

We're finally here at the Winner's Bracker Finals!  We got a HAT mirror match with Luke Feeney championing the Kuribandit variant while Ned is using the more traditional build.

Luke elects to go first and starts off with Normal Summoning Traptrix Myrmeleo to search out Bottomless Trap Hole.  He then sets four to his backrow and passes the turn.

Ned starts by drawing a turn then activating duality, revealing two copies of Artifact Sanctum and Traptrix Myrmeleo, adding Myrmeleo.  Ned Nomral Summons it but Luke has the Solemn Warning.  Ned sets three to his backrow and ends his turn.

6400 (Ned) - 6000 (Luke)

Luke attacks with Myrmeleo, sets one, and passes the turn.

Ned sets one more to his backrow and passes the turn.

Luke starts his turn by Normal Summoning another Traptrix Myrmeleo.  The summon resolves, although Ned has the Breakthrough Skill to stop the effect, but Luke flips over a timely Wiretap to push the effect through!  Myrmeleo searches out a copy of Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare.  Both Myrmeleos attack directly.  During his Main Phase 2 he sets one more to his backrow and passes back to Ned.

3200 (Ned) - 6000 (Luke)

Ned Normal Summons Traptrix Dionaea to Special Summon back Traptrix Myrmeleo.  Myrmeleo targets Luke's set Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare, causing Luke to activate his Artifact Sanctum in response.  Ned has his own copy of Wiretap this time, but Luke has another Wiretap of his own!  Artifact Sanctum brings out a copy of Artifact Moralltach.  Ned tries to flip his Torrential Tribute but he can't interrupt the chain.  Moralltach destroys Ned's Traptrix Dionaea.  He then activates Mind Control on Luke's Myrmeleo then overlays them both for Number 101: Silent Honor ARK.  Luke chains Bottomless Trap Hole, robbing Silent Honor ARK of an Xyz Material necessary to steal a monster.  Ned Soul Charges for both Traptrix monsters in his graveyard to Xyz Summon another Silent Honor ARK, stealing Luke's Moralltach.  Ned passes the turn.

1200 (Ned) - 6000 (Luke)

Luke tribute sets a monster, sets one to his backrow, and passes the turn.

Ned Normal Summons Dionaea but Luke responds with Fiendish Chain.  Ned responds with Torrential Tribute, forcing the Dionaea effect through.

Luke looks at the top card of his deck and immediately concedes the first game.

Ned is able to stay aggressive after dropping to a paltry 1200 Life Points, swinging the duel back in his favor!

 


 

Game 2

Luke goes first with a Pot of Duality, revealing two copies of Soul Charge and a Traptrix Myrmeleo which is immediately Normal Summoned.  Myrmeleo searches out Bottomless Trap Hole.  Luke sets four to his backrow before passing the turn.

Ned draws to start things off, sets five to his backrow and ends his turn.

Luke swings with Myrmeleo and is met with Memory of an Adversary, banishing it to eventually come back under Ned's control.  Main Phase 2 he uses Pot of Duality, revealing Dimensional Prison, Soul Charge, and Fiendish Chain, adding Soul Charge.  He then Normal Summons another Myrmeleo without effect.

6400 (Ned) - 8000 (Luke)

Ned sets another card to his backrow then passes back to Luke.

Luke swings with Myrmeleo and Ned responds with Malevolent Catastrophe.  Luke flips over a copy of Artifact Ignition targeting Ned's Malevolent Catastrophe.  Ned chains his own Artifact Ignition targeting Malevolent Catastrophe, and Luke responds with a second Artifact Ignition targeting Malevolent Catastrophe.  This chain of events leaves Ned with no Artifact searches and Luke only with one.   The swing goes through, and during the End Phase, Ned gets Luke's Myrmeleo.

4800 (Ned) - 8000 (Luke)

Ned sets one to his backrow and passes, unable to attack due to the effect of Artifact Ignition.

Luke Tribute Summons Artifact Moralltach and runs over Myrmeleo.

4300 (Ned) - 8000 (Luke)

Ned sets another to his backrow and passes.

Luke immediately swings with Moralltach, sets one to his backrow and ends the turn.

2200 (Ned) - 8000 (Luke)

Ned's Pot of Dualtiy reveals Artifact Sanctum, Myrmeleo, and Artifact Moralltach, adding Artifact Sanctum.  Ned sets another card to his backrow and passes back the turn.

Luke Normal Summons Traptrix Dionaea but is met by Ned's Breakthrough Skill.  During Battle Phase, Luke swings with Artifact Moralltach.  In response, Ned activates Artifact Sanctum to Special Summon Artifact Moralltach without effect to dodge Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare.  The Moralltachs crash, and Dionaea gets in for direct damage.

500 (Ned) - 8000 (Luke)

Ned activates Dark Hole then passes the turn.

Luke finally uses Soul Charge, bringing back two Myrmeleo and two Artifact Moralltach.  Ned chains Bottomless Trap Hole to banish the two Moralltach and Special Summons his destroyed Artifact Moralltach.  Luke has the Fiendish Chain though to push the Xyz Summon through though and a Number 50: Blackship of Corn burns Ned out of the game, bringing us to a deciding Game 3!


 

Game 3

Ned decides to go first and sets three to his backrow.

Luke draws for turn and Normal Summons Ice Hand.  The attack goes through and then he sets one backrow before ending his turn.During the End Phase, Ned activates Artifact Ignition on his set Artifact Moralltach to search and set another Moralltach.  Moralltach is then Special Summoned in defense.

6600 (Ned) - 8000 (Luke)

Ned sets a monster then passes the turn.

Luke starts his turn by Normal Summoning Fire Hand.  Fire Hand runs over Moralltach, and Ice Hand runs over Ned's set Traptrix Dionaea.  Luke sets one more to his backrow and ends his turn.

Ned Normal Summons Traptrix Dionaea and Special Summons the other Dionaea.  He overlays both for Abyss Dweller, attempting to stop Luke's Hand monster effects.  He activates Dweller then attacks over Luke's Ice Hand.  Ned passes without another play.

6600 (Ned) - 7700 (Luke)

Luke Normal Summons Traptrix Dionaea then moves to the Battle Phase, attempting to crash Dionaea into Abyss Dweller.  During Battle Phase, Ned activates Call of the Haunted on Moralltach but Luke has the Wiretap to shut it down.  He sets one to his backrow then passes to Ned.

5000 (Ned) - 7700 (Luke)

Ned leads off with a Soul Charge on both copies of Traptrix Dionaea and Artifact Moralltach.  He then overlays both Dionaea for another Abyss Dweller!  He passes back to Luke.

2000 (Ned) - 7700 (Luke)

Luke starts by Normal Summoning Ice Hand.  He overlays both Hands for Number 101: SIlent Honor ARK which is met with a Bottomless Trap Hole to stop it from stealing a monster.  ARK runs over Abyss Dweller.

1600 (Ned) - 7700 (Luke)

Ned Normal Summons Myrmeleo and grabs Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare.  He sets it then passes back to Luke.

Luke immediately goes to Battle Phase and runs over Myrmeleo.

1100 (Ned) - 7700 (Luke)

Ned sets one and passes the turn.

Luke crashes his ARK into Moralltach.  Still during Battle, Luke activates Call of the Haunted targeting the Ice Hand in his grave.  Ned responds with an Artifact Ignition on his set Artifact Moralltach, searching out another Moralltach.  Luke chains Bottomless Trap Hole to banish Moralltach.  Ned offers the handshake after being so far behind.


 

Luke moves on the Grand Finals on the back of his Hands in this HAT mirror match!
