ARG Player’s Championship: Winner’s Bracket Top 8 Ned Salkovitch (HAT) vs. Andrew Paller (Geargia HAT)

Welcome duelists to the Top 8 of the Winner's Bracket!  We have a pseudo-mirror match on our hands here with Ned running the Nationals-dominating HAT deck, while Andrew Paller has mashed together all of the top archetypes as his deck includes Geargia, Traptrix, Hand, and Artifact monsters!  Which advantage engine will be able to move onto the semifinals?

 

Ned won the die roll and elects to go first.  He starts with a Pot of Duality, revealing Soul Charge and two Artifact Moralltach.  He adds one of the Moralltach to his hand.  He sets four to his backrow then passes the turn.

Andrew begins by summoning Geargiarsenal.  Ned responds with Artifact Ignition on his Moralltach, searching out another Morallatach to his backrow.  Moralltach activates and destroys Geargiarsenal.  He passes without another play.

Ned Normal Summons Cardcar D, draws two and passes the turn.

Andrew sets one monster and passes the turn.

Ned sets two to his backrow and ends the turn.

Andrew draws for turn, sets another monster along with three backrow.  During the end of turn, Ned activates Double Cyclone on his Moralltach, destroying Andrew's Book of Moon and Special Summoning the Moralltach.

During his Main Phase 1, Ned overlays for Tiras, Keeper of Genesis.  He then follows up with a Dark Hole, hitting two copies of Ice Hand.  The two Ice Hand hit Ned's Breakthrough Skill and Artifact Sanctum.  Artifact Sanctum goes off and destroys Andrew's set Moralltach.  Tiras runs over Fire Hand.  During the end of the Battle Phase, Tiras destroys the other Fire Hand.  he sets one to his backrow and passes.

Andrew Normal Summons Geargiarsenal.  Ned responds with Artifact Sanctum, grabbing a Moralltach in attack mode.  Moralltach is met with a Bottomless Trap Hole but still gets to destroy Geargiarsenal.  Andrew proceeds to Battle Phase, attacking Tiras with Moralltach.  Ned responds with Book of Moon on Moralltach.

Ned draws for turn and Normal Summons Traptrix Myrmeleo to search out Bottomless Trap Hole.  Myremeleo runs over moralltach and tiras connects direct.  sets one then passes

8000 (Ned) - 5400 (Andrew)

Andrew sets a monster, two to his backrow and passes the turn.

Tiar runs over Geargiaccelerator and he adds Geargiarsenal while Myrmeleo hits directly.  He sets one backrow and passes.

8000 (Ned) - 3800 (Andrew)

Andrew Normal Summons Geargiarsenal for the third time!  Ned responds with Bottomless Trap Hole but Andrew has the Forbidden Lance.  Arsenal gets out Geargiarmor which he flips face down.  He sets one to his backrow and passes.

Tiras runs over Geargiarmor, letting Andrew search out  Geargiaccelerator while Mymeleo connects yet again.  He sets one and passes.

8000 (Ned) - 2200 (Andrew)

Andrew draws for turn, sets one monster and a backrow and passes.

Myremeleo attacks over Geargiccelerator and Tiras connects for lethal!

 

Andrew was unable to get anything going as each of his Geargiarsenal are stopped by Ned.  Let's see if Andrew is able to force a Game 3!

 


 

Game 2

Andrew elects to go first Game 2.  He Normal Summons Geargiarsenal, gets Geargiarmor which is immediately flipped face down.  He passes with no backrow.

Ned leads off with a Dark Hole before settings four.

Andrew Normal Summons Traptrix Myrmeleo to search out Traptrix Trap Hole.  Myremeleo attacks and Ned responds with Memory of an Adversary.

7200 (Ned) - 8000 (Andrew)

Ned just sets one and passes.

Andrew Nomal Summons Geargiarsenal and Ned responds with Torrential.  He passes the turn.

Ned draws and passes without an action.

Andrew Normal Summons a third Geargiarsenal which is met with a Bottomless Trap Hole.  He passes without a play.

Ned Normal Summons Traptrix Myrmeleo with no effect.  Myremeleo hits directly before he passes the turn.

7200 (Ned) - 6400 (Andrew)

Andrew sets one monster and passes the turn.

Ned tribute sets a monster then passes the turn.

Andrew flips up his set Geargiarmor to search Geargiaccelerator.  He then flips down Geargiarmor.  He sets one more monster and ends his turn.

Ned Normal Summons Traptrix Dionaea to Special Summon Myrmeleo.  Andrew responds with Maxx "C".  Myremeleo goes off and destroys Andrew's set Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare.  Overlays for Diamond Dire Wolf.  Diamond Dire runs over Geargiarmor as Andrew searches out Geargiano.  Diamond Dire activates in Main Phase 2 and destroys Andrew's set Ice Hand which destroys Ned's Artifact Moralltach while bringing out a Fire Hand.  He sets one backrow and passes.

Andrew Normal Summons Geargiano and tributes it off to Special Summon Geargiarmor.  He then Special Summons Geargiaccelerator.  Next, he overlays for Gear Gigant X.  Gear Gigant X attempts to search but Ned has the Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare!  Andrew sadly sets two and passes.

Ned Normal Summons Traptrix Dionaea to bring back Myremeleo and destroy Andrew's set Torrential Tribute which is chained.  Ned responds with Wiretap and Andrew has his own Wiretap!

Andrew starts his turn with a Soul Charge on Geargiaccelerator, Geargiarmor, Geargiarmor, and Geargiarsenal.  Arsenal and Accelerator  overlay for Gigant X. Gigant X adds Accelerator from grave and is then Special Summoned.  Accelerator and Armor overlay for another Gigant x to yet again add Accelerator.  He normal summons Geargiarmor and overlays both for Number 106: Giant Hand.

7200 (Ned) - 2400 (Andrew)

Ned sets two and passes.

Andrew activates both Gigant x to search the last two Accelerators.  He turns both Gigant X to attack mode then summons Accelerator in attack.  Moving to Battle Phase, Andrew attacks with Geargiaccelerator.  With no fear of Mirror Force, all of his monsters connect for the win!


 

Game 3

Ned starts off by setting four backrow and passing.

Andrew Normal Summons Traptrix Myrmeleo to search out Traptrix Traphole Nightmare.  Andrew swings but is met with a Memory of an Adversary!

6400 (Ned) - 8000 (Andrew)

Ned uses Pot of Duality revealing Breakthrough Skill, Double Cyclone, and Artifact Ignition, taking the artifact ignition.  He sets one more to his backrow and ends the turn.

Andrew sets one monster and ends his turn.  Durng the End Phase, Ned activates Ignition on his set Artifact Beagalltach, searching out Moralltach.  Beagalltach destroys Moralltach, and in response to the Special Summon effect, Andrew chains Ally of Justice Cycle Reader to banish it.  Ned continues on and uses Artifact Sanctum to bring out another Artifact Moralltach.

Ned draws for turn and immediately overlays for Constellar Pleiades.  He bounces Andrew's set monster then swings with the team.

6400 (Ned) - 3900 (Andrew)

Andrew starts his turn with a Dark Hole to wipe the board clean.  Next, he Normal Summons Fire Hand and attacks.  In response, Ned chains Call of the Haunted on Moralltach to destroy Fire Hand.  Ned warning's the Fire Hand activation.  Andrew sets four and passes.

4400 (Ned)- 3900 (Andrew)

Ned swings with Moralltach, sets one and passes.

4400 (Ned) - 1800 (Andrew)

Andrew sets one monster and ends his turn.

Ned draws and passes the turn.

Andrew Normal Summons Geargiarsenal but Ned has the Bottomless Trap Hole to banish it.  He flips over a Soul Charge to bring back Myrmeleo to destroy Call of the Haunted.  Ned responds with Torrential Tribute, destroying the Myrmeleo and Andrew's set Ice Hand.  Without another play, Andrew passes back to Ned.

4400 (Ned) - 800 (Andrew)

Ned Normal Summons Traptrix Myrmeleo and with only a Bottomless Trap Hole as defense (which doesn't work on Myrmeleo, Ned takes the match!


 

Ned's HAT deck is able to grind through a grueling three games and move onto the Winner's Bracket semifinals!
