ARGCS Atlanta Deck Tech: Caleb Cosby’s Pure Artifacts

Today I got a chance to chat with Caleb Cosby, a duelist who has been no stranger to the ARG Circuit Series.  Making a name for himself at the TCGplayer.com $10k with Tribute Stun, Caleb has been one to try decks outside of the box.  Last week at ARGCS Chicago he ran Infernity Randomizer Artifacts, but he's brought a pure build here to Atlanta.

Me: So first, I gotta ask, why the swap?

Caleb: I feel Artifacts have a very strong toolbox.  Last week I also found I didn't have enough Sanctum or Ignition targets so I wanted to flesh out the Artifact engine.

Me: What would you call the MVP of the deck?

Caleb: Artifact Scythe, because it locks down your opponent's Extra Deck.  It's a blow-out against Burning Abyss in response to a Tour Guide or a flurry of Special Summons

Me: Did you run into difficulties with a lack of normal summons?  All of the Artifact monsters either require or tribute or have to be summoned during your opponents turn.

Caleb: It makes opponents much more afraid of backrow hate, and Fire Lake can't completely shut me down.  Last week, I didn't like Randomizer because it gave my opponent an easy Phoenix Wing Wind Blast or Karma Cut target.

Me: Favorite theme of the side deck?  Seems you're still rocking the Tribute Stun!

Caleb: Yup, I'm a big fan of the pair of fiends, and The Monarchs Stormforth is good spot removal.

Me: What's your best card out of the Extra Deck?

Caleb: Constellar Pleiades, it's why I run three of him.  There is an OTK with four artifacts: Shark Fortress + Constellar Pleiades, overlay for M7 after bouncing something with Pleiades.  Shark Fortress can then let M7 attack twice then you overlay for Gaia Dragon

Me: Have you always been the kind of person to play something non-meta?

Caleb: Running a meta deck can get  very mundane and boring.  Mirror matches with equally skilled players eventually come down to who draws better, so why not throw a wrench into the mix with something off the wall?
