ARGCS Indianapolis: Grand Finals Jordan Winters (Burning Abyss) vs. Jeff Jones (Burning Abyss)

We've finally arrived here in the Grand Finals as we have ARG mainstay Jordan Winters against two-time champion Jeff Jones.  Both of these duelists have piloted Burning Abyss successfully all weekend, but only one of them will get to go home with a trophy and the title of ARGCS Indianapolis Champion!  Will Jeff Jones complete the hattrick or will Jordan Winters nab a victoy?


Game 1

 

Jordan wins the die roll and elects to go first.  Jordan starts off with an Upstart Goblin then sets three backrow and passes his turn.

8000 (Jordan) - 9000 (Jeff)

Jeff starts with a Normal Summon of Mathematician to send Shaddoll Dragon to the grave to destroy Jordan's Phoenix Wing Wind Blast.  Main Phase 2 he sets three and ends his turn.

6500 (Jordan) - 9000 (Jeff) 

Jordan sets a backrow and passes.

Jeff Normal Summons Tour Guide from the Underworld but Jordan stops it with Effect Veiler.

4000 (Jordan) - 9000 (Jeff)

Jordan draws, sets a backrow and passes.

Jeff swings then tributes Tour Guide from the Underworld Main Phase 2 for Raiza  Raiza hits Jordan's Mystical Space Typhoon which he chains on Jeff's Trap Stun.  He sets one and passes.

1500 (Jordan) - 9000 (Jeff)

Jordan passes without a play.

When Jeff tries to attack for game with Mathematician, Jordan uses Mystical Space Typhoon on Jeff's Mind Crush.  He then uses Phoenix Wing Wind Blast on Raiza but it's still enough for lethal damage.


Game 2

 

Jordan elects to go first for Game 2.  He sets a backrow and ends his turn.

Jeff sets a monster and three backrow before passing the turn.  During the End Phase Jordan uses Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, discarding Scarm, to spin Jeff's set Scarm.  Jordan adds Graff to his hand.

Jordan Normal Summons Cir then attacks directly.  Main Phase 2 he activates Supply Squad then ends his turn.  During the End Phase Jeff uses Karma Cut, discarding Scarm to banish Jordan's Cir.  Scarm lets Jeff add Tour Guide from the Underworld to his hand.

8000 (Jordan) - 6400 (Jeff)

Jeff summons Tour Guide from the Underworld to grab Scarm in attack.  Jordan responds to the summon with Flying "C".

6200 (Jordan) - 6400 (Jeff)

Jordan sets a backrow and ends his turn.

Jeff tributes Flying "C" for Raiza to spin Jordan's Supply Squad.  He then Xyz Summons Dante then detaches Scarm naming three, milling Mobius, Cir, and Mathematician.  Main Phase 2 he overlays for Downerd Magician, sets a backrow, and during the End Phase he adds Cir to his hand with Scarm.

1300 (Jordan) - 6400 (Jeff) 

Jordan uses Allure of Darkness to draw two and scoops it up, unable to mount a comeback.  We're moving on to match point for Jeff Jones!


Game 3

 

Jordan elects to go first for the potential final game.  He kicks things off with a Tour Guide from the Underworld to bring out Scarm.  He Xyz Summons Dante then uses its effect detaching Scarm, naming one and milling Mystical Space Typhoon.  He follows it up with a Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force to Xyz Summon Constellar Pleiades.  He sets two to his backrow, then during the End Phase adds Graff to his hand.

Jeff draws for turn and starts with a Normal Summon of Mathematician, sending Scarm to the grave.  He sets three backrow and during the End Phase adds Graff to his hand.  Still in End Phase, Jordan detaches Dante to bounce Jeff's set Mystical Space Typhoon while Dante adds Scarm.  He then uses Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, discarding Scarm, to spin Jeff's sets Mind Crush.  Scarm adds Tour Guide from the Underworld to Jordan's hand.

Jordan summons Tour Guide from the Underworld and Special Summons Cir in attack mode.  He then Xyz Summons Ghostrick Alucard and uses it's effect, detaching Cir to destroy Jeff's Trap Stun but not before he chains it.  Cir brings back Jordan's Dante.  During Battle Phase, Jordan swings with the team.  Main Phase 2 he overlays Downerd Magician on top of Dante then ends his turn.

8000 (Jordan) - 4200 (Jeff)

Jeff uses Mystical Space Typhoon on Jordan's set, a Vanity's Emptiness.  He then activates the effect of Graff to Special Summon itself to the field from his hand.  He tributes Graff for Raiza to spin Pleiades, but not before it bounces it to his hand.  He sets one backrow and ends his turn.

Main Phase 1 Jordan uses Alucard to target Jeff's backrow.  He chains it, a Mind Crush, calling Graff so he could take a look at Jordan's hand before scooping up his cards.


Game 4

 

Jeff decides to go first, still on match point.  Jeff starts with a Tour Guide from the Underworld to bring out Scarm in defense.  He Xyz Summons for Dante in defense, then uses its effect, detaching Scarm naming three, milling two copies of Mind Crush and a Maxx "C".  During the End Phase he adds Tour Guide from the Underworld to his hand.

Jordan begins his turn by using Foolish Burial to send Graff to the grave.  When he goes to use the effect, Jeff flips up Vanity's Emptiness.  In response, Jordan uses Mystical Space Typhoon on the Vanity's Emptiness.  Graff resolves and brings out Scarm from the deck.  He then Special Summons Cir and in response to the summon, Jeff chains other Vanity's Emptiness.  Jordan sets a backrow before passing back to Jeff.

Jeff goes deep in the tank, staring at a hand of two Tour Guide from the Underworld and a Raiza.  He ultimately decides to go with Raiza by tributing Dante.  Jordan chains Compulsory Evacuation Device to the effect but Jeff chains Trap Stun while Dante adds Scarm to his hand.  Raiza runs over Cir which brings out Graff.  He passes his turn.

7200 (Jordan) - 8000 (Jeff)

Jordan passes.

Jeff runs over Graff then passes the turn.

Jordan sets one to his backrow and ends his turn.

Jeff runs over Scarm with Raiza.  During the End Phase Jordan adds Graff to his hand.

Jordan sets a monster then ends his turn.

Jeff's Raiza runs over Jordan's set Mathematician, netting Jordan a card.  He sets a backrow and ends his turn.

Jordan uses Upstart Goblin to dig one deeper.  He sets a monster and passes.

7200 (Jordan) - 9000 (Jeff) 

Jeff's Raiza runs over another Mathematician.  He passes without another play.

Jordan sets a monster and ends his turn.

Jeff yet again has Raiza get in the red zone, running over Jordan's THIRD Mathematician.  Main Phase 2 he sets a monster and passes.

Jordan sets a monster then has to discard Tour Guide from the Underworld in the End Phase because of too many cards in hand.

Jeff swings with Raiza and Jordan chains Malevolent Catastrophe.  Jeff responds with Mind Crush, naming Tour Guide from the Underworld and revealing a hand of Supply Squad, Vanity's Emptiness, Solemn Warning, Scarm, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, discarding a Tour Guide from the Underworld.  Raiza runs over Graff whcih brings out Cir.  Main Phase 2 Jeff tributes Scarm for a Raiza to spin the Cir, then he sets one to his backrow.  During the End Phase Jeff adds Cir to his hand.

Jordan plays Supply Squad the summons Cir.  He crashes Cir into Raiza but not before Jeff drops Maxx "C".  Main Phase 2 he sets four cards to his backrow and ships it over to Jeff.

6400 (Jordan) - 9000 (Jeff)

Jeff Normal Summons Mathematician to send Shaddoll Dragon to the grave to destroy Jordan's Supply Squad.  During Battle Phase, Raiza runs over Graff which brings out Cir, while the other Raiza runs over Cir which brings back Graff in defense.  Jeff ends his turn without another play.

Jordan draws for turn then uses Mystical Space Typhoon on Jeff's set Breakthrough Skill.  He then Normal Summons Scarm to Xyz Summon Dante in attack.  He detaches Scarm naming three, milling Scarm, Graff, and Karma Cut.  Battle Phase Dante runs over Raiza.  Main Phase 2 he overlays for Downerd Magician and ends his turn.

6400 (Jordan) - 8900 (Jeff) 

Jeff Normal Summons Cir to die immediately to trigger its effect to bring back Dante, but Jordan has Vanity's Emptiness to stop the effect.  Jeff proceeds to Battle Phase and attack Downerd Magician with Raiza, chaing Breakthrough Skill on Downerd to stop the ATK boost effect.  Jordan's Dante adds Cir back to his hand.  Jeff ends his turn without any backrow.

4600 (Jordan) - 8900 (Jeff) 

Jordan summons Tour Guide from the Underworld to bring out Cir from his hand.  He Xyz Summons Dante in attack, then detaches Cir to its effect, naming three and milling Mystical Space Typhoon, Effect Veiler, and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast.  Cir brings back Dante then the 2500 Dante runs over Raiza.  Main Phase 2 he overlays for one Downerd Magician, sets a backrow and passes the turn.

4600 (Jordan) - 8800 (Jeff)

Jeff Normal Summons Tour Guide from the Underworld and in response to the effect Jordan uses Solemn Warning.  Jeff runs Mathematician into Downerd to draw a card, while Downerd detaches Dante to add Cir to Jordan's hand.  Main Phase 2 Jeff uses the effects of Graff and Cir to Special Summon them to the field.  He then Xyz Summons Number 49: Fortune Tune in defense.  He passes with a naked backrow.

2600 (Jordan) - 8000 (Jeff)

Jordan moves straight to Battle Phase and has Downerd Magician pierce over Fortune Tune.  Jeff detaches Cir to bring back Dante from the grave.  Dante attacks Fortune Tune, as Jeff detaches Graff with no effect.

2600 (Jordan) - 6800 (Jeff)

Fortune Tune gives Jeff 500 LP in his Standby Phase.  He tributes Fortune Tune for Raiza, as Raiza spins Dante while Fortune Tune returns Cir and Mathematician to the deck as it goes back to the Extra Deck.  He turns Dante to attack then swings at downerd with Raiza but Jordan has Karma Cut as He discards Cir to banish Raiza and bring back Dante.  Main Phase 2 Jeff overlays for Downerd Magician, sets two backrow and ends his turn.

2600 (Jordan) - 7300 (Jeff)

Jordan plays Supply Squad then tries to swing with Dante but Jeff has Compulsory Evacuation Device to bounce it.  Jordan passes without another play.

Jeff tributes Dante for Mobius, destroying Jordan's Supply Squad and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast while Dante brings back Cir.

2300 (Jordan) - 7300 (Jeff)

Jordan draws his last card and extends the hand in concession.


Jeff Jones is your ARGCS Indianapolis champion!  He can add this win to his already impressive track record as a three-time champion!
