Today in round 9 we have Billy Brake, who is fresh off of another top from last weekend, going up against Jordan Winters. Both players are 6-2 heading into round 9, and the winner here will likely make the top cut. They’re both playing Dragons, and like any other mirror match, a clutch Crimson Blader will likely seal the game for whoever makes the play. Billy won the die roll, and he started the game off by ditching Tempest and Debris to add Blaster to his hand. He banished Tidal and Blaster to special summon Redox in defense mode. Jordan responded Read more

Veterans Eaton Guo and Steve Klaus met in Round 9, representing the popular decks Dragunity Rulers and Evilswarm!   Steve won the die roll and elected to go first. He played Terraforming adding Dragon Ravine from his deck to his hand and immediately activated it. By discarding Blaster to the graveyard, he added a Dragunity Phalanx from his deck to his hand and followed with Cards of Consonance to draw two cards, and then used a second Terraforming to add a second Dragon Ravine to his hand. Klaus activated Upstart Goblin, giving Guo 1000 Life Points. Klaus Normal Summoned Dragunity Read more

Round 8 brings us another Dragon Ruler mirror match. This time Desmond Johnson and Thomas Vo are both using Dragunity Rulers. Vo started the duel by using Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storm’s effect to send itself and Phalanx to the graveyard to search Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders to his hand! He followed up with using Sacred Sword of Seven Starts to banish Redox and add a second Redox to his hand. He Normal Summoned Dragunity Dux and used Phalanx and Vajriyana to Synchro Summon a Colossal Fighter! He set one card and passed. Johnson also used a Sacred Sword Read more

Sometimes events like these are the best opportunities to see newcomers come into their own. That being the case, it’s my pleasure to bring you a match between seasoned vet Wesley Johnson and young Zach Leverett.   GAME 1 Wesley won the roll and would be going first. He started off modestly, with setting 1 backrow before ending. Zach opened to a hand of Dragunity Dux, Tempest, Dragon Ravine, Upstart Goblin, Solemn Warning, and Castle of Dragon Souls. He started his turn by pitching Tempest to dump Phalanx. Then, when he dropped Dux and attempted to dougie, Wesley stopped him Read more

Here in round 7 we’ve got a mirror match. Joe Wagner who hails from Cleveland, Ohio is playing dragons, and his opponent Wesley Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama is piloting the very same strategy. Like many of the players here today, they’ve both opted for the generic Dragon deck over Dragunity Rulers. Typically the mirror match is decided by well timed Crimson Blader plays, or whoever draws Return from the Different Dimension, so we’ll see if that ends up being the case today. Wes won the die roll, so he’ll be taking first today. His opening hand had Cards of Consonance, Read more

Both Lucas Nation and Desmond Johnson are playing Dragon Rulers today, but only one is running the Dragunity engine; the other is playing Poki-Draco. Eventually after many rolls, Nation won and elected to go first. His first turn was modest with just two sets. Johnson started his turn in a much bigger way, activating Terraforming to get Dragon’s Ravine to his hand and activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card! He activated Sacred Sword of Seven Stars and banished Tempest to search Dragunity Phalanx! Johnson activated Dragon’s Ravine and buried Phalanx, hoping to get a Dragunity Dux from his deck, Read more

Overpowering as the top tier may be, there are those who would war against the expected no matter the circumstance. But when it comes down to it, is that enough to take down behemoths? Let’s take a look at the match between Eaton Guo and Mark Velez to find out!   GAME1 Having won the die roll, Eaton starts with the strong play of Evilswarm Heliotrope backed by 4 backrow. Velez pitches Corsesca for Tempest to tutor Blaster. Next, he banishes Tidal and Corsesca to drop Blaster which tutors him another Tidal. Blaster swings over Heliotrope and Guo eats some damage.
