Deck Doctor – Andre Osbourne

Hey guys, welcome to my deck doctor article. Now I’ll admit I’m new to all of this but writing an article seems like fun so I figured why not. I’ll start by introducing myself my name is Andre Lloyd but most people just call me Dre, I have been playing this game for just over three years now and this is my first ever attempt at an article.

Ok so let’s get into the actual deck, first of I’ll start with Billy Brake’s Rock stun deck which seems pretty standard.

Monsters: 19
3 Koa’ki Meiru Guardian
3 Koa’ki Meiru Sandman

3 Koa’ki Meiru Wall
3 Block Golem
2 Card Trooper
2 Maxx “C”
2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
1 Neo-Spacian Grandmole

Spells:10
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Soul Taker
2 Pot of Duality
1 Seal of Orichalcos
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole

Traps: 12
2 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
2 Call of the Haunted
2 Bottomless Traphole
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road

Extra Deck: 15
2 Gem-Knight Pearl
2 Kochi Kochi Dragon
2 Soul of Silver Mountain
1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaister
1 Gachi Gachi
1 Fairy King Albverdich
1 Gaia Knight, Force of Earth
1 Naturia Beast
1 Naturia Barkion
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon

The first thing that I would like to add in would be an Effect Veiler, now I know recently there has been a big debate in the Yugioh community regarding Maxx c and Effect Veiler and with the introduction of the Atlantean deck I feel Effect Veiler should still be a main deck choice. While Maxx c has good synergy with the rest of the deck as it is an earth attribute as well as the fact that it is just a good card I feel effect veiler is most situations is better. With the way this deck is set out if it were to face Wind ups it could have some trouble. I’ll explain what I mean if a Wind up player were to go Heavy storm, Magician and Shark what is this decks answer? Now Dropping Maxx C although can stop some players, the Majority of the Player base know standard Rock stun decks do not play Gorz or Trag meaning if they storm and go off they win. Maxx C usually would allow you to draw into answers however if you 8000 is put on the board what are those next turn answers going to do?

This brings me to my choice of main decking two Effect Veilers, ok so you’re not always going to draw into it however it is an immediate answer to Magician Shark or Dragonfly and Centipede.

With the introduction of Effect Veiler and Thunder King I felt that I would have no choice but to take out the three Block Golems, now this wasn’t my initial intention but I felt that with Effect Veiler and Thunder king in the main it makes Block Golem less viable. It’s very likely to draw him after you have used Veiler or Rai-Oh and then he is pretty much useless.

Moving on to Thunder king , Now at the start of this format a lot of people including myself felt Thunder king would be amazing this format and I still believe it has the potential to be. However we have seen a fall in the number of people main decking it and to some degree anyway has fallen of the radar in my opinion.

Now don’t get me wrong I’m sure a lot of people may still use Thunder king it’s just not as many people do. With the introduction of Atlantean Mermail I think we are going to see a lot more main deck Thunder king as well as in the side. Thunder king is amazing against Atlantean Mermail it really is they really don’t have a main deck card which can get over him. It is also a really strong first turn start to go set two or three back rows and summon Thunder King. It doesn’t hurt this deck to run it only problem is the dualitys and of course you can play around this.

Another two cards I decided to drop were a TT and a D prison, while I have always been a fan of both these cards more so the torrential I feel that only one is really needed. Granted it deals with decks that can swarm the field very easily such as Wind ups and Atlantean. However I feel that with Rock Stun while you don’t have that many monsters on the field at the same time, maintaining field presence is essential and with TT that isn’t always possible.

Dimensional Prison for me was a hard decision, I would have left it in however I felt a tech was needed and so I replaced it with a Safe zone. Ever since all the way back at YCS Chicago where Billy Brake took Inzektors to a Top 3 finish while using Safe Zone I have liked this card. The whole Safe Zone Dyna play in my opinion is great it shuts down so many decks that it’s ridiculous. Also the fact that you can use it to destroy your opponent’s monster when they activate a blind MST makes it just that little bit better, having Chainable traps is really important this format because Heavy storm is such a powerful card.

The two cards I decided to replace TT and prison, is two copies is Forbidden lance. I still think this card is really good this format and can perform multi functions. I know a lot of players are shifting to trap less decks such as Agents, Chaos dragon variants etc. Lance however can still be used effectively to counteract decks like Chaos Dragons helping the 1900 floaters get over monsters like Light pulsar and Chaos sorcerer. The last card to be taken out was one copy of call of the haunted, while I kept one I decided only one was needed as I took out both the troopers.

So with all that being said here is my take on Rock Stun this format:

1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
1 Number 11: Big Eye
1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger
1 Black Rose Dragon

Now I really like this deck there wasn’t much I could actually do to the main deck to improve it but I did try something. Ok so I took at just one card and added in two bringing the total cards to 41.

I decided to remove one D Draw, although I am a big fan of this card and would like to see it played in three I felt that with three trade in and one allure the deck had a lot of draw power already and so taking one D Draw out wouldn’t hurt the consistency too much.

So I added in two copies of Elemental Hero Prisma, now I think he really has great synergy with this deck. Being an Elemental hero he is searchable via Stratos and because he is a warrior another target for ROTA, but you can also dump Plasma in the grave so that you don’t dead draw into too many or even send soul ogre if you already have the fusion card in the grave. It really is in there to fuel cards like Dark Armed and Miracle Fusion it also opens the extra deck up to Shining which is always a good thing.

My main Changes to the Deck really lie in the extra deck, finding space for the Elemental Hero fusions. The first card to be cut is Melomelody, now in my opinion this is not a generic extra deck card like Mystroke or Tempo it only really works if you have other Djinns on the field because by itself 1400 beater with 1600 defence can only really come in handy when attacking for game and wanting to get in the 300 more damage you couldn’t get with Leviathan.

With that being said alongside Gaia Charger it was cut, for similar reasons while Gaia Charger is actually a viable card it isn’t essential or really viable in this deck’s extra deck. It’s difficult to bring out only being able to overlay the hieratic xyz and all it really is doing is taking up space in the extra deck.

Black Rose Dragon while at first glance I wondered what it was doing in the extra deck I can see how it could be quite useful with reborn in the main to possibly bring back a tuner, although as this is highly situational I decided that it would also be cut for more fusion space. The same can be said for big eye seeing as how I just took out a level 7, but that isn’t the main cause for taking big eye out. It is one of my favourite xyz don’t get me wrong it’s just that the only main deck level 7 monsters are Gorz and Dad with the latter being one of the boss monsters of the deck so you wouldn’t really want to be using it for xyz material. I can also see how Trag and Gorz make it viable but I just think it’s better to play the Fusions since; we’re Main decking three miracle fusions.

With all that said here is my Gishki Hero build:

Monsters 22

3 Gishki Soul Ogre
3 Gishki Vision
3 Destiny Hero Plasma
2 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 Trageodia
