I'd like to start off by thanking Alter Reality Games for having a contest like this! It gives everybody a shot at this job and makes things more interesting for us by opening up their website to new ideas and new articles.
Let's start off with Billy Brake's deck:
3 KKM Guardian
3 KKM Sandman
3 KKM Wall
2 Card Trooper
2 Maxx "C"
2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole
3 MST
2 Soul Taker
2 Pot of Duality
1 Seal of Orichalchos
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole
2 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
2 Call of the Haunted
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road
I really like this deck because it's good but not a part of the meta - a rare combination these days. There are, however, a few things I would like to change if I were going to play this deck at a YCS.
I would start off by cutting the two copies of Maxx "C". I know, lots of decks special summon this format, but Maxx "C" is really just not that good in the main deck. It's often dead, and just plain terrible if you draw it after your opponent has already set up their field. It should be sided instead of mained.
The next few cards I would cut are the two copies of Soul Taker. It's definitely a good card, just not so much in this format and for this deck itself. It only helps kill big monsters, which this deck can handle with its trap and monster line-up. I think it's biggest downfall is the format itself that we're in. Not enough Dino Rabbits and Heroes to make this card worthwhile in the main deck. Another good side card.
The last card I would cut from the deck would be 1 Mystical Space Typhoon. I don't feel like 3 is necessary in here, seeing as its a stun deck after all and we're playing Call of the Haunted and Black Golems to get more summons.
I would add 2 copies of Thunder King Rai-Oh because he's such a savage this format. In the rare cases you draw The Seal of Orichalchos, he lets you lock up their attacks of you have a Koa'Ki meiru to add to the field as well. I'd also add 2 copies of Catapult Zone because it helps protect your smaller guys like Fossil Dyna Pachy and you can do some weird stuff with Neo-Spacian Grandmole too. Not to mention setting up the grave for Call and Block Golem is pretty cool, too!
Next up is Joe Giorlando's Turbo deck:
3 Gishki Soul Ogre
3 Gishki Vision
3 Destiny Hero Plasma
2 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 Trageodia
2 Tour Guide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
1 Gishki Shadow
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
1 Dark Armed Dragon
1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness
3 Destiny Draw
3 Trade-In
3 Miracle Fusion
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Salvage
1 Gishki Aquamirror
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn
1 Grenosaurus
1 Melomelody the Brass Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction
1 Temtempo Percussion Djinn
1 Maestroke Symphony Djinn
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
1 Number 11: Big Eye
1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger
1 Black Rose Dragon
I'm not too familiar with this deck, but I think I get the concept. I would only make a few changes to it. First off, I would cut a Salvage. I don't think we're playing enough water monsters to pull this card off at 2. So down to one it goes and helps open up some room.
Another card I would cut is Dark Armed Dragon. I just don't feel like we are playing enough darks to justify it. I see potential inconsistency problems everywhere with this card. That being said, the cards I would add are another Gishki Shadow and another Gishki Aquamirror. They help an inconsistent deck boost it's consistency. This deck is also lacking the Elemental Hero Fusions, but the cards to cut are up to you. Thanks for reading guys, and good Lu l to everyone!
