Frog Control Underrated?

Hi everybody, my name is Fabricio and I am from Guayaquil, Ecuador. I have played Yugioh! since Magic Ruler and have experimented all types of deck changes/ban list since then. I also own a Yugioh! store in my city, called Duelist Place and I have been Judge in important events here as well.

My subject for this article is about Frog Control, why is good right now and why it’s a excellent against others decks. I will explain what is and then I will show what cards I am running on it. I have tested against every type of existing decks, and the winning ratio is good.

What is a Frog Control?

A lot of people around the world are using top decks (Agents, Synchrocentric, Dark Worlds), played in YCS or higher events and variety isn’t to much popular this days. A Frog Control (the one I am running now) is a deck based in the combination of frog cards and the most popular monarchs around. The principal idea of this deck is having monster on the field, so I can summon a monarch. Treeborn Frog is the “soul” of the deck, so Its very necessary to put TF in the Graveyard. There are a lot more combos with this deck, but first of all I will explain why Monarchs and later the Deck List of my Frog Control.

Why play Monarchs?

Monarchs are excellent tribute cards, that have good effects and they are not so difficult to summon on the field. All top decks now use a certain amount of cards combination to make their play/strategies, but at the end, they only leave one good monster on the field. Well-played Monarch can beat any monster (s) in any situation.  Some Monarchs can give you an interesting field advantage.

What I Play?

To continue with this article, the first thing I must do is show what cards I play in my deck, so I can explain the synergy of all cards.

How it works?

The main idea of my Frog Control is to have a lot of alternatives to have monsters on the field so I can tribute to summon a Monarch. If you can see, I have 3 solid ways to have at least one monster to tribute.

1)      Battle Fader

2)      Soul Exchange

3)      Treeborn Frog

I create it with the main idea that “something can fail”, so I need to have more options to tribute my monarchs. Once you have the “how to summon your monarch” now we move to the tribute parts. I have the 2 most effective Monarchs in my deck, Caius and Raiza, both control any threat of my opponent monsters. Also I am running 2 copies of Vanity´s Fiend to control my opponents SS and 2 LaDDs that control monster effects/spell/traps.

I choose to use Maxx “C” because for 2 reasons: a) Can give you a lot of cards when your opponent SS in his/her side of the field and b) it’s a 2 star monster, if already my opp. has made all his SS, I can use it to make a Gachi Gachi with Ronintoadin for example.

About my spells, I run 3 soul exchange…people told me “you are insane” and I told them, “No, its cool” because it’s the only card in the whole deck that can help me to get rid of Archlord Kristya, opponents Vanity´s Fiend, Fossil Dyna and King Tiger wanghu (My worst enemies in the whole game).

Enemy Controller its also a staple in this deck, tributing in Stand By Phase treeborn frog to control an opponent monster, and in the same SB phase, treeborn can SS himself so I got 2 tributes for my LaDD, also is very useful to protect vanity´s fiend against Light Monsters+Honest or Gale The Hurricane.

I really love Compulsory evacuation device….I prefer running this trap than Water Spirit Aoi or Treacherous Trap Hole, its because they give you much more options in playability. You can return opponents monster (high level monsters or face down monsters) or YOURS…for example Monarchs or LaDD without negation, so you can Summon again with the help of Treeborn frog/soul exchange/etc. Another reason why I play Compulsory is because the “Creature Swap”. In one event, a friend summon a “mystical shine ball” and I had a Vanity´s Fiend on the field and made, creature swap…when resolved, I used my compulsory, returning my vanity´s to my hand. =)

Extra deck is a standard one, as you see the only 2 tuners I use are Bulb and “Formula Synchron” so I only synchro summon a few times. But its necessary to have all synchros in the extra deck, just in case…

Side Deck helps me to control even more field and effects, Veilers and Rai Oh are standard now, the first one help me against effects and Rai Oh it’s a 1900 ATK monster with a good effect. I have tested Delg, and Its very good in this meta (my country) because helps to control Opp. Graveyard and If I used soul exchange to tribute him, doesn’t matter if he doesn’t attack…Mobius is very good against “Bluffers” and his optional effect can overpass starlight road, that means that I can choose to destroy 1 or 2 cards on the field.

Experience on the field:

I have tested this deck against Dino Rabbits, Synchrocentric, Agents, Dark Worlds, Samurais, Tengu Plants and Karakuris and it has a great opportunity against all the mentioned decks. When playing Frog Control, you must wait for your opponents move first so you can know what play you should do. There are a lot of threat when playing "Meta" decks or "Stun" decks (Known in my Country as Anti-Meta). Monsters that does not allow to special summon can stop the Treeborn combination with Monarchs, that is the main reason of using 3 Soul Exchange.

I believe this is a very nice and a good deck to play (and also cheap) and the best part of all, nobody expects it…I hope see some Frog Control decks topping big events.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed! This is my 1st time writing about Yugioh! in a prestigious website. Any comment will be appreciated. If you have questions about the deck or any comment about how the deck works, just write me.
