Hello Yugioh Community! Lately, it seems like every other article on Alter Reality has been about the upcoming changes to the Forbidden and Limited list on September 1st , and I figured I might as well throw in my two cents. The month or so before the format changes is always an exciting time for the Yugioh Community. Duelist everywhere will be writing up their own mock list and see how close they can get to guessing at what Konami has in store for the game for the next six months. Most duelists will right up lists of what they wish to happen, but my list will be more along the lines of what I think Konami will do. Only time will tell what will really happen to this game we love!
Question of the article: If you could ban one card right now, what would it be and why?

Newly Forbidden Section
Monster Reborn – A huge majority of duelist out there want this card gone. There is no down side to it making it almost impossible to play around. There have been multiple times I’ve done everything I can to stop my opponent’s combo’s, but they ended up having Monster Reborn and I could do nothing about it. This card is unfair and probably the strongest card in the game right now and should be gone. I cross my fingers and hope this card is gone come September.
Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning - Just like Monster Reborn this card almost needs no explanations. I felt like this card should be banned without a doubt and my feelings were confirmed at YCS Chicago. In round 6 or 7 I faced a duelist using a Psychic deck. I can admit I wasn’t too familiar with them and thus my siding was not perfect. What ended up happening is that I sided out all three copies of Effect Veiler (the only light monsters in my deck), but left Black Luster Soldier in my deck with no light targets. I ended up making a Giga-Brilliant and when it left the field I was easily able to win game 3 with Black Luster with not a single light monster in my main deck. If that isn’t powerful and splashable, I don’t know what is.
Mind Control – I feel like this cards time is up. It has been bothering duelist for countless formats and with people XYZing more than ever, it is time for this card to go. It’s another card like Monster Reborn that you can be put in a position where there is nothing you can do about it. You spend your Effect Veilers to try and stop their onslaught, but then they just Mind Control and can XYZ, Synchro, use your monster’s effect, you name it and Mind Control can do it. This card is very powerful and I expect it to make an appearance on this list.
Future Fusion – I cannot begin to describe the unfairness of this card if your opponent opens up with it while you are going second. It’s another card that there is just nothing you can do to stop it. If it resolves in a Chaos Dragon deck you can almost be sure that you have lost the duel. On top of its OTK potential, it also has its uses in Heros, it can even dump a Destiny Hero – Malicious to grave for the plus one. This is probably the definition of an unfair card and it should be gone.
Wind-Up Hunter – This is the card I feel a lot of people might disagree with me on, but I think it is the most simple and effective way to take care of Wind-Ups. If this card is banned, it doesn’t matter how many Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity or Wind-Up Rat you have in your deck, you cannot discard you hand and can only gain field presence (which a timely Cyber Dragon would have no problem dismantling). If you go the route to just restrict Wind-Up Zenmaity to one then you would still have to deal with hoping your opponent doesn’t open with Magician Shark! Those two cards would still allow for the Wind-Up player to discard two cards and end with a Zenmaity and the Rank 3 of their choosing. That is only a plus two with an established field turn 1 and 2 more Wind-Up Rats in the deck to keep the onslaught coming. I think this is the most direct and easiest way to take this deck down a notch and I hope it happens.
CARDS I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORBIDDEN
There are a couple of cards that I didn’t include on my list because I do not think they will go, but I thought that they were worth mentioning.
Card Destruction – Similar to Future Fusion, if your opponent is using Darkworlds, gets to go first and opens up with this card, there is nothing you can do to stop it. Most of the time the Darkworld duelist will gain so much advantage so quickly it is very hard to fight back, making this card nearly ban worthy. I don’t think it will be sent to the forbidden list due to it only being played in one deck, but hopefully they touch Darkworld in some other way.
Limiter Removal – With new Machine support coming out duelist will have to deal with this card yet again. It is an easy way to steal a quick victory in any deck packing a Machina Gearframe. It’s a two card combo that could potentially deal over 8000 damage if attacking into a clear field. With Gear Gigant X it is even easier to spam a whole bunch of Machine-type monsters and end the game quickly with Limiter. While I don’t think it will be touched I would be happy to see it go.
Newly Limited Section
Inzektor Centipede – While I don’t think Konami wants to completely kill Inzektors, restricting Centipede deeply wound them. There will be no more OTK factor (at least not as easy) and a lot less monsters to use in the deck for consistency purposes. I like limiting Centipede over Dragonfly because the Inzektor player will still have the Rank 5 option with Inzektor Dragonfly and Inzektor Ladybug, but won’t be able to keep the onslaught coming each and every turn thanks to a Centipede search. Restricting this guy is the perfect solution for this deck in my opinion.
Rescue Rabbit –How much more of a turn 1 Rabbit can we possibly take. This card has been plaguing duelist everywhere and has enabled what may be the most effective skill-less deck in Yugioh history. There are only more cards coming out who make this cute creature even better (the evilswarms). It’s time to put this guy to one and hurt the consistency of this annoying deck. Besides all I hear from Dino-Rabbit duelist how they drew three Vanilla monsters and were still able to skill-fully find victory so this shouldn’t be a problem!
Hieratic Seal of Convocation – I am not entirely sure if this one is going to happen, but due to their recent success and continued success in Japan, I am sure something will be done. Since the hieratics are a combo based deck and needing the right monsters is crucial, I feel this card will go to one to help make the deck more inconsistent. The deck will still be playable with this card at one and depending on what happens with the power of other decks, Hieratics will still be a force to be reckoned with.
Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon – I believe this card will be hit for two reasons. One is its key role it plays in Chaos Dragons. The fact is can be summoned so easily and revive a Light Pulsar Dragon that could bring another REDMD back is just ridiculous. The other reason is the new Rank 10 XYZ that will be released from Shonen Jump shortly. If you have two Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragons on the field you can overlay them for Gustaph Maxx, a 3000 atk monster who can inflict 2000 points of damage to the opponent, its Dark Strike Fighter all over again. Having only one copy of REDMD will greatly reduce his playability if it not kill it (outside of Tragoedia combos).
One Day Of Peace – This may just be my wishful thinking, but I would love to see this card go to one. It does nothing for the game besides help out Solitaire decks (which Konami frowns upon). It is used in Burn, Final Countdown, Exodia, and it can be argued is one of the best cards in each of those decks. In my opinion there was no reason for this card to be made and I would like to see it go to one.
Super Polymerzation – With the new Dark E-Hero being released soon, Heros will quickly rise to top tier in America just like they are in Japan. This card will be become unstoppable monster removal and free most of the time if used with Elemental Hero Stratos or a Neos Alius that was brought back by Hero Blast. This card is unstoppable and the only way to make sure it doesn’t dominate the meta is to slow it down by putting it to one.
Ultimate Offering – Why this card is at more than one I’ll never know. Like Future Fusion, if this card resolves it can just mean game. The 500 life point cost is meaningless in most situations and with the ability to XYZ summon around this card can just be broken. This one card can turn a meaningless Gadget into a lethal onslaught. While I don’t feel it is ban worthy, I’d like to see it go right back to one.
Evolsaur Laggia – While limiting Rescute Rabbit to one might be enough to slow the deck down, I feel Laggia will get the Shi En Treatment. When Konami went after Samurais after they proved to be dominant, they slowed the engine and restricted there main boss monster to one. I feel that Dino-Rabbit will have a similar fate and Laggia will be put to one.
Snoww, Unlight of the Darkworld – The heart and soul of Grapha! This card is single-handily the best Dark world card ever and should be limited to 1. He can search out practically any card in the deck no matter what the situation is. If they don’t have the heart to ban Card Destruction, at the very list I hope they restrict this guy. It will make Darkworld players have to be more skillful when they use Snoww to make sure not to waste his effect when they only have one of him. At three Dark World players can keep searching Snoww with Snoww, keep discarding him to draw more cards out of their deck until they get to what they want. This card is absolutely bananas and should be put to 1.
E-Emergency Call – On this Forbidden and Limited list I can see two things happening, Ban Elemental Hero Stratos (He is definitely worthy) or put E-Call to one. I feel putting this card to one would hinder the deck enough to where it would still be one of the best decks of the format, but not too overpowered. If Stratos were to get banned, it would all but completely destroy any chance the deck has at being top tier. This restriction would greatly reduce the consistency of this powerful deck and I feel that it should be made.
Newly Semi-Limited Section
Chaos Sorcerer – The fact that Chaos Dragons have been so powerful and that Chaos Sorcerer shares the right level for Photon Strike Bounzer, I feel they will have to put him back to two. This is a card that was once banned for a reason and having him at three right now is just crazy. He is just as powerful as ever and can have decks built around him. He is an answer to almost any XYZ monster and has a very easy cost to fulfill. I think he has ran around at three for too long and it’s time to take him back a notch.
Final Countdown – While they could just go ahead and put this card to one, I feel only semi-limiting it is more realistic as long as One Day of Peace is dealt with. This card has never been good for the game and duelists who just want cheap wins will try and build a deck around this card to playing yugioh by themselves all day. It makes the game I love not fun and putting Countdown to two will severely hurt the decks consistency. If it was up to me I would just be done with it and ban this card.
Inzektor Hornet- As I mentioned above, I don’t believe they will kill Inzektors, but simply try and hurt their consistency. Putting this guy to one would all but kill the deck and leaving him at three would be a bad idea. With only one Centipede to search for this guy, Inzektor duelist will have to resort to using less viable cards like Armageddon Knight and Foolish Burial to get this guy to the rave quickly. In my opinion, Two is the perfect number for this card to keep the deck kicking, but not anywhere as consistent as it once was.
Tour Guide From the Underworld – I think the most likely thing Konami will do to Tour Guide is semi-limit it. Doing this will still allow it to be played, but it’s power will decrease dramatically. One of two scenarios will result from Tour Guide going to two. In one case, duelist will have to grab another Tour Guide with its effect because if they grab Sangan, they now have a completely dead Tour Guide in their deck. Or people will start running sub-optimal cards like Tour Bus or Night Assailant just to avoid having dead TGU’s in the deck. Either way the power of this card will be drastically reduced from what it is now.
Mystical Space Typhoon – While I am a big advocate for all sorts of Spell/Trap removal, we now have Night Beam at 3, Dust Tornado at 3, Heavy Storm still around, I think they will put MST back to 2 if not 1. We have other cards, while not as good as Mystical Space Typhoon, but can still get the job done. There is no reason for this card to be at 3 and it won’t surprise me if it goes back to two.
Newley Unrestricted Section
Swords of Revealing Light/Marshmallon – I really just don’t know what these cards are not at 3. I don’t think either one of them would see any more play then they already do right now. While I understand that Marshmallon can be annoying, but Spirit Reaper is far superior and he is even at 3. I can’t name a single person that I know that would be excited about the chance to play three copies of Swords of Revealing light. And I know they are both stall cards, but by putting Final Countdown to 2 and One Day of Peace to one, the popularity of stall decks would diminish rather quickly, not even a 3rd Marshmallon or Swords could save them!
Spore – I have no idea why he was put on the forbidden list and I expect to see him come off. While I know Konami was trying to stop the Plant engine(Lonefire, Dandylion, Glow-Up Bulb, and Spore) from being splashed into everything, they killed any chance that a plant deck had at being good. The use of Synchro Monsters is at an all time low right now ever since there release and by bringing back Spore one can only hope that they would make a rebound.
Conclusion: In about a Month we will all know what the new Forbidden and Limited list is for the start of the new format on September, 1st 2012. Until then all we can do is speculate and have fun at guessing what might happen. The list I have just shared with you guys is more of what I feel is going to happen as opposed to just what I want. I would be fine with any of these changes and I can only hope that the real forbidden and limited list will look somewhat similar to mine. It is important to keep in mind duelist that no matter what happens this is a card game that we all love to play. We have had some bad formats and some really great ones, but either way Yugioh is still Yugioh. If they don’t ban that one card or they didn’t touch that one deck, try not to get too upset! No matter what happens on the list I know I will be at YCS Toronto on September 1st, trying to win just as much as ever!
