Here at the ARGCS in Columbus, Ohio, we have Brandon Wigley and Chase Cunningham dueling off in a heated Dragon mirror match! Brandon is using a turbo Dragunity Ruler deck while Chase has opted for a more traditional Dragon Ruler deck running a slue of hand traps and Debris Dragon!

Game 1

A high roll of the dice decided that Brandon would be taking the first turn. He started off with a draw and then set 4 before passing to Chase.

Chase drew and then played Sacred Sword of Seven Stars, banishing Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to draw 2 cards and add another Blaster to his hand. He then played Dragon Ravine and discarded Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders to add Dragunity Corsesca to his hand. He played Cards of Consonance, discarding Corsesca to draw 2 more cards. He then banished Redox and Corsesca from his grave to special summon Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms. He searched for another Redox for the banished Redox’s effect. Chase then attacked Brandon directly for 2400 damage before setting 2 and ending his turn.

Chase 8000, Brandon 5600

Brandon drew and then used Sacred Sword, banishing Redox to draw 2 new cards and search for another Redox. He then activated Terraforming to add Dragon Ravine. He played his Dragon Ravine over Chase’s and then used its effect to discard Redox and add Dragunity Phalanx to his hand. He discarded Phalanx with Cards of Consonance and drew 2 new cards before activating Upstart Goblin to draw another and give Chase 1000 additional lifepoints. He then activated Reckless Greed to draw 2 MORE cards before summoning Dragunity Dux to the field. He activated Dux’s effect to attach the Phalanx from his graveyard and then used Phalanx’s effect to special summon itself. Brandon then made Dragunity Knight Vajrayana, which then repeated the process to make Stardust Dragon. He brutalized Chase’s Tempest with Stardust Dragon for 100 damage. He set 1 more and ended his turn.

Chase 8900, Brandon 5600

Chase drew for this turn before banishing Tempest and Redox to special summon Blaster and search for a Tempest. He attacked Stardust with Blaster only to have Stardust get pumped up by Castle of Dragon Souls! Brandon banished Redox and added another to his hand with its effect while the soul charged Stardust destroyed Blaster for 400 damage. Chase ended his turn only for Brandon to use another Reckless Greed to draw 2 more cards.

Chase 8500, Brandon 5600

Brandon could not draw thanks to his Reckless Greeds but he played Upstart Goblin to draw 1 anyways! He then banished Vajrayana and Tempest (from hand) to special summon Redox, but Chase chained Maxx ”C” to Redox’s effect and got to draw a new card. Brandon searched for a Phalanx with Tempest’s effect, which he used to pay the cost of Cards of Consonance and draw 2 more cards. He used the effect of Dragon Ravine by discarding Tempest to add another Dragunity Phalanx to his hand before attacking for a total of 4100 damage. Brandon set 2 cards before passing his turn.

Chase 5400, Brandon 5600

Chase drew for his turn before special summoning Redox from his hand by banishing Maxx “C” and Blaster and then searched for Flamvell Guard with Blaster’s effect. He summoned Dux and brought back Phalanx and climbed up into Vajrayana and brought Phalanx back to the field with its effect. He used Castle of Dragon Souls to banish Tempest and boost his Stardust by 700 attack and searched for Mysteltainn with Tempest’s effect. Brandon continued his play by tributing Dragunity Phalanx to special summon Mysteltainn from his hand and using its effect to bring Phalanx back yet again! He overlaid Mysteltainn and Vajrayana into Constellar Ptolemy M7 and used its effect to detach and return Mysteltainn to his hand. He tributed Phalanx again for Mysteltainn and brought it back to synchro summon Scrap Dragon. He used Scrap Dragon to destroy Chase’s set Raigeki Break and his Castle of Dragon Souls. Chase chained Raigeki Break, discarding Tempest, and attempted to destroy Brandon’s Stardust which he tributed to save. He special summoned Tempest with Castle’s effect and then special summoned Redox by banishing Mysteltainn and Tempest and overlaid into Mecha Phantom Beast, Dracossack. He made tokens with his Dracossack’s effect and then tributed one to destroy Chase’s set Mirror Force. He then banished Stardust and Phalanx to special summon Blaster before he tried to attack for game. Chase discarded Swift Scarecrow to negate M7’s onslaught but was cut short when Brandon used Book of Moon to flip his monster facedown, allowing his Scrap Dragon and Blaster to attack for game.

Brandon took the game thanks to an intense onslaught of draw power and a surprise Book of Moon on his own monster to seal the deal! While siding for game 2, Brandon offered that both he and Chase side out Return from the Different Dimension, but understandably so Chase declined the offer.

Game 2

Chase activated Swift Scarecrow to try and end the battle phase but Brandon used Divine Wrath and discarded Redox to negate the Scarecrow and continue his onslaught. He successfully attacked for 3000 damage before Chase discarded Electric Virus to use Raigeki Break and destroy the 3rd Dux. Brandon then set 2 cards and ended his turn.

Chase 1000, Brandon 8000

Chase used Sacred Sword, banishing Blaster to draw 2 cards and add another Blaster to his hand. He banished his Scarecrow and Tempest to special summon Redox from his hand before adding another Tempest to his hand. He set a monster and passed. Brandon used yet another Reckless Greed to draw 2 more cards.

Brandon skipped his draw phase and banished Blaster and Tempest to summon another Blaster. Chase chained Maxx C to draw one before Brandon added another Tempest to his hand. Dux attacked Chase’s facedown Debris Dragon, inflicting 500 damage to himself. He then sent Blaster at Redox, activating Castle of Dragon Souls in the Damage Step to boost him up above the massive defense that Redox is! He used Compulsory Evacuation device to send back the Debris Dragon before attacking directly with Dux, wiping out the last of Chase’s lifepoints!

Slow and steady won the race even under Skill Drain! Brandon Wigley will advance onto the next round with a 6-1 record!
