Shattered Alliances brought us plenty of powerful cards, but nothing so over-the-top that it dominates all comers. The field for the opening weekend of KMCs seemed wide open. The results from the ARG Circuit Series in Fort Worth also seemed to support this notion. I really struggled with what I wanted to play for the KMC in Torrington, CT, and the cloudy results of my testing kept pulling me in different directions. I ground out Haven Control mirror matches. How much ramp is too much? Is [ccProd]Wildstrider Ramnoth[/ccProd] only good in the mirror? Do you need a dedicated Darkness package or Read more

Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here and today we will be going over a new mini series I wanted to start, “Tier 1 Card Reviews”. You are going to quickly find that my views vary greatly compared to most of the other competitive players out there. Frankly, I don’t believe our meta is as diverse and healthy as everyone claims it to be; just because your local has different decks every week doesn’t mean they are all competitive. I haven’t really tested at all for Seattle yet, and I’m still quite confident in my ability to perform well. I Read more

It’s easy to identify deck archetypes and ascribe roles to them. Rush tries to kill the opponent as fast as it can. Midrange curves out and attempts to outlast rush, but kill before the late game. Tempo usually overlaps with midrange, but may be more open-ended as to its kill turn. Control tries to hang around as long as it can until winning with fatties is inevitable. We all implicitly understand the gameplans of decks that fall within this paradigm. Decks that don’t fall within this paradigm are probably lacking in focus; in Kaijudo, it’s essential to know your deck’s Read more

Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here, and I’m bringing you the results of the KMC this weekend! We have finally reached the final week and now we know who will be going to Seattle from the KMCs! This was a crazy week and I’m already super late on covering it! Lots of real life stuff caused me to have some delays; I’m behind on pretty much everything right now haha. Let’s jump straight into the reviews! The KMC happened in Oakmont, PA; let’s see what took this KMC by storm! Total Players: 63 Top 8: 1 Carl Miccioto – Read more

The final weekend of the KMC season weekend came and went, and the pressure of the high stakes was palpable. While many players opted to go with tried-and-true formulas, a select few came to the table with their own brews, and found great success with them. KMC Kentucky champion Brian Durkin is no stranger to going against the grain; many will instantly associate him with Greed Dragons, as he was one of the first to pilot the deck to a top finish. Brian played an innovative midrange deck at Mr. Nice Guy Games in Oakmont, PA, and he sat down Read more

Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here, and I’m bringing you the results of the KMC this weekend! There was only one KMC this time around, and it was in the wonderful city of Las Vegas! So far I’ve had to change the direction I wanted to go with this article twice; I really hope I don’t step on any toes with my ‘filler’ content! The KMC happened in Las Vegas, NV; what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas—unless you win a free trip to Seattle! Total Players: 26 Top 8: 1. Stephen Liberto – Dominus Control aka Keeper of Read more

Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here, and I’m bringing you the results of the KMCs this weekend! We’re nearing the end of our KMC season; only four of them are left. Speaking of which, there’s only 1 KMC next week; how am I going to fill an entire article off that?! The KMCs this time around had decent turn outs; not quite the massive ~70 person tournaments, and it’s unlikely we’ll ever do as bad as 6 again! There were a lot of requests for unique deck names, but sorry about that everyone; we can’t be confusing players like Read more

A proper tournament report isn’t really fitting this week. Full disclosure: I didn’t do well at this past weekend’s KMC in Southbridge, MA (hosted by LJ Sportscards). That being said, there were a number of notable, talented players in attendance, so the trip wasn’t a total bust. I learned a lot about the current competitive environment from playing, observing, and talking to other players. The pool of viable decks at the moment may seem somewhat stagnant, but there are noticeable trends that transcend the specifics of the deck lists. Picking up on these trends will be very important as we inch Read more

Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here, and I’m bringing you the results of the KMCs this weekend! I was supposed to be present at another event, but things had come up and my KMC season is over! Luckily, I got my invite for Seattle back in Ohio! Clash of the Duel Masters has jumped the meta, and it seems we’re finally starting to see a dominant trend. I really thought I was going to be on time, but it seems not all KMC winners want to part with their deck lists; I can’t blame them! I’d like to thank Read more

Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here, and I’m bringing you the results of the KMCs this weekend! I was present at another event; I seem to always go to the largest KMCs! Luckily this time around I did much better than I did last time. This was the first set of KMCs are Clash of the Duel Masters, and not so surprisingly many of the more common decks from last format still managed to keep their pedestal. I decided to take my sweet time getting this article in; between internet drama, poor coverage, and secretive deck lists this was Read more
