Hey there Kaijudo Duelists, Aiden Thorne here, and I’m bringing you the results of the KMC this weekend! We have finally reached the final week and now we know who will be going to Seattle from the KMCs! This was a crazy week and I’m already super late on covering it! Lots of real life stuff caused me to have some delays; I’m behind on pretty much everything right now haha. Let’s jump straight into the reviews!
The KMC happened in Oakmont, PA; let’s see what took this KMC by storm!
Total Players: 63
Top 8:
1 Carl Miccioto - Megabugs
2 Christian Van Hoose (CVH) - LWDN
3 Ryan Valentino - LWDN
4 Carolyn Colajizzi - LWDN
5 Gerry Thompson - LWD
6 Steve Silverman - LWDN
7 Bryan Le - LWDn
8 Brian Durkin - LFN Aggro
Congratulations to all the players who topped! Right off the bat we notice something really awesome, MEGABUGS WON! I personally doubted that deck was competitive since I saw it; I guess this KMC goes to show that Megabugs actually is a thing. There are a few familiar names on this list. We have Carl Miccioto aka EarthP0w3R and fellow ARG writer CVH (Congrats on finally getting your invite) from Team Peach who are well known in the community. We also have multiple Team SBK members once again topping (Ryan Valentino also received his invite in this tournament). One name I know many players know is Gerry Thompson, a well known magic pro who skipped a Grand Prix to play at a Kaijudo Master Challenge (and that alone sparked more interest in the game). So there were some big names at this event! Let’s take a look at Carl Miccioto’s Megabugs Deck!

This deck has definitely been the one to spearhead megabugs into the spotlight, and this variant doesn't run fire! Trading off the raw tenacity of fire for the consistency of water was the reason this deck was able to top at such a large event. As with all megabug decks this deck revolves around one strategy, flood the field and swing for lethal. This deck can effectively do that by relying on the card advantage and field presence it can easily generate with its staples such as [ccProd]The Hive Queen[/ccProd], [ccProd]Mana Tick[/ccProd] and [ccProd]General Finbarr[/ccProd]. Cards that are level 5 or lower with enter the battle zone effects have perfect synergy with [ccProd]The Hive Queen[/ccProd]'s flip ability—keep playing threats and you'll have them picking up in no time!
Congratulations again, Carl Miccioto! You won one of the final KMCs!
Next up we'll be taking a trip to Texas, they had one of the first KMCs and they had one of the last!

Congratulations to all the players who topped! It has been awhile since we've seen Greed Dragons take a KMC; this format really hasn't been a good time to run it. Let's take a look at Gator Ferrel's Greed Dragons!

Lots of finishers and lots of shield blasts, it definitely stays true to the philosophy of Greed Dragons. Besides the updated Clash of the Duel Masters Shield Blasts, only three things really stand out. First off, we'll notice that he has incorporated 3x [ccProd]Scaradorable of Gloom Hollow[/ccProd]; rush was definitely a problem in that area, but it does make me wonder if that weakened the [ccProd]Bottle of Wishes[/ccProd] flips and control match ups. Speaking of control match ups, hello [ccProd]Keeper of Laws[/ccProd]. Almost everyone now understands what makes this card so powerful, and let me be quick to point out that this is the most annoying counter to control variants...ever. Finally, we see that every card in this deck is 3x except for [ccProd]Spellbane Dragon[/ccProd]; it may have been a last minute addition, but from the coverage it seems that [ccProd]Spellbane Dragon[/ccProd] greatly contributed to wins in the top! Your opponent is never going to want to cast spells with both [ccProd]Keeper of Laws[/ccProd] and [ccProd]Spellbane Dragon[/ccProd] to punish them for it.
Congratulations again, Gator Ferrel! You won one of the final KMCs!
On to the last KMC there was, this was another KMC in Canada; it was a smaller one, but it will round off my last KMC review this season!
Total Players: 26
Top 8:
1 Andrij R - Greed Dragons
2 Ken T - LWN (Leap of Faith)
3 Alexander H - LWDN Keeper Control
4 Cory L - Keeper Control V3
5 Russell C - Mono Fire Rush
6 Max G - LWFd
7 Shane H - Keeper Control V2
8 Jonah X - WNLd Aggro-Control
Congratulations to all the players who topped! Maybe I spoke too soon about Greed Dragons, it seems to have won two of the final KMCs! Cory L aka TheKaijudoChannel managed to snag a top 4 spot, but sadly no invite for the most known Kaijudotuber; good luck in the grinder Cory! This meta seems to be right around where I expected it; Keeper Control with Nature, rush, and aggro decks—we're a lot more diverse than people wish to admit. Let's take a look at Andrij's Greed Dragons!

It definitely looks like Greed Dragons has had to adapt with the times and play blockers to stand against the onslaught of rush decks! A very notable card choice is [ccProd]Keeper of Dawn[/ccProd], while I can definitely understand how playing a +1 is always a good idea it really seems to shine in these decks with both [ccProd]Root Trap[/ccProd] and [ccProd]Terror Pit[/ccProd]; plus if you're trying to have funsies you can play an army of [ccProd]Bottle of Wishes[/ccProd]! The major reason to run [ccProd]Keeper of Dawn[/ccProd] however, is to combo the card with [ccProd]Piercing Judgment[/ccProd] for a cycle of infinite removal similar to Keeper Control. This version of Greed Dragons is running three [ccProd]Herald of Infernus[/ccProd]—this list was definitely expecting to play rush!
Congratulations again, Andrij R! You won one of the final KMCs!
I'm only a week late on this article, don't worry! You'll be getting the next on time! This was the final wrap up to the KMC coverage; we now know the 48 players who earned their invites to Seattle for the Kaijudo Championship. If you didn't make it there is always the Last Chance Qualifier in Seattle the Friday before the event where two more players will get into the tournament! Good luck everyone and I'll see you Monday with another article!
A final congratulations to all the KMC winners!
