The New Big 3?

joe bogliHello everyone. With the weekend over and done with, how were your Yugi-experiences? Let me know and comment below! If you did not see/hear, the new tins got released before the weekend started. This tin packed a punch and brought some new artillery to the yugi world. From new rarities of Gagaga Magician and Number 20: Giga Brilliant to brand new cards never seen before except on Dueling Network. At my Friday night local, I saw the new tins and a lot of people were buying them (I had no prior knowledge as to what came in them) so as people continued to buy them, I was puzzled. Seeing the same cards taken out of the tin over and over again. But then I noticed not ever tin had the same Ultra rares inside of it. This caught my attention because in the past, most of the tins that were released contained that same cards inside of them so everyone was guaranteed to get them. I asked one of my friends who was buying these tins as to what cards especially he was trying to get copies of. He said, "Number 19: Freezerdon, Number 61: Volcasaurus, and Starliege Paladynamo". My first reaction was I couldn't believe Volcasaurus actually came out and is playable now. One of the closest kind of things we have had in the game closest to Dark Strike Fighter but its an XYZ form. I can honestly say, this card can be ban worthy in the future because of its ability to just steal a game/match away.

Number 61For those of you who do not know what this card does, let me enlighten you: 2 Level 5 monsters. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; destroy that opponent's monster, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's original ATK. This card cannot attack your opponent directly during the turn you activate this effect. This card has great synergy with a bunch of decks in my opinion. Starting with the normal Wind-Up deck because of Wind-Up Shark. Inzektors gain more support from this card because of Inzektor Ladybug manipulating levels of his comrades  And another deck I think gains support from this deck is Hieratics. Yes, Hieratics. A deck that has focused on mainly XYZ spamming Atum/Gaia Charger because of Wattaildragon and Luster Dragon #2, but what other way to make a rank 5 in the Hieratic deck outside of Nebethet/Eset? Well, Hieratic veteran Paul Cooper showed us in YCS Miami. Curse of Dragon. Yugi's old school dragon used to Fusion summon Gaia, the Dragon Champion is now a key component in the new Hieratic deck because of the versatility of Volcasaurus. I also believe any deck that can utilize Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger is going to be key with this mini Ring of Destruction. Simply destroying a monster on your opponents field, burning for some damage, then just overlaying for Gaia and getting some more damage? Seems pretty darn good to me. During my local on Sunday, I saw many people successfully summon both Volcasaurus and then Gaia in the same turn for game or something very close to it. It was unreal how deadly the combo really is. I may try and make a deck utilizing Volcasaurus but im afraid its way to hard to make in my Mono Mermail deck :/

Number 19Another card people were after was Number 19: Freezerdon. I'm not quite sure as to exactly what deck you could utilize this card in. If you have any ideas, feel free to comment below and share your ideas! Freezerdon's text reads: 2 Level 5 monsters. Once per turn, if you would activate the effect of a face-up Xyz Monster you control by detaching Xyz Materials, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead. Im not sure why, but the first thing that came ot my mind with Freezerdon was Evols. The advantage of Westlo, Najasho, Evo-Force, Diplo and Vulcano can make easy Evolzar Laggia's and Dolkka's. But how Freezerdon? Well, Evolsaur Darwino is a way. Manipulating the levels of your monsters on the field from Darwino or just bringout out 2 copies of him from Najasho/Evo-Force combo then making a Vulcano play to make a Laggia/Dolkka seems really cool! Then whenever you want to negate with Laggia/Dolkka (or any XYZ on your field for that matter) just use your Freezerdon. Maybe some cool Gadget deck with Jumbo Drill can come into the mix? Use Ultimate Offering and spam with a bunch of XYZ's including Freezerdon since you changed the levels of some Gadgets and go off from there using effects? Just throwing some different ideas out there! With more cards being released, I feel this card has extreme potential in the future. Just have to wait and see!

Starliege PaladynamoThe last card people were in search of. Starliege Paladynamo. This in my opinion, is one of the most versatile cards that was released in the tin next to Volcasaurus. Another splashable XYZ monster you could say for various decks with a pretty good effect. 2 Level 4 LIGHT monsters. Once per turn: You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card to target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0, and if it does, its effects are negated. When this card you control is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to your graveyard: Draw 1 card. If this card was a generic rank 4 instead of needing 2 level 4 light monsters, it would be insane. But the fact you need 2 level 4 light monsters makes him extremely balanced and gives two decks in my mind alot more versatility. Those Hero players get a little boost with then have their Alius' and Thunder King's on field and have another option to XYZ into, WattBurn has been seeing more play and with the Wattcobras you can bring you this guy and then if he gets destroyed and sent to the grave, you draw a free card. But the deck I have been tinkering around with since this cards release, is Thunder Family. Thunder Sea Horse is currently one of my favorite cards in the game, the advantage it gains from discarding it and searching either 2 copies of itself or the common play of searching 2 copies of Sishunder, summoning her and removing the horse, and then adding the horse to your hand during the end phase is a common/great play the dead pulls off. With the additional normal summoning of Pa and Mahunder the deck can easily summon the Paladynamo. With more testing and more cards coming out, I also see this card gaining more popular as the yugi world progress'.

With YCS Austin happening shortly, do you think any of these 3 cards will have an impact at the event? Do you think a majority of the top decks will try and incorporate any of these cards to their arsenal? Only time will tell, but for now, Play Hard or Go Home!
