Wind-Ups: Toy Story “2.5-3.0” By Parker Roberson

parker robertson

Hello fellow Yu-gi-oh’ers out there, I'm Parker Roberson, the guy who topped Indy like 5 months ago, but whatever, I’m back and with an article that is sure to rock the YUGI world. As I am sure a lot of you know by now Wind-Ups are by no means dead. I started playing wind ups about the time Mermails came out I hadn’t played them the rest of the format and thought it was time to top a few Regionals with them. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE DECK. It has easily been one of my most favorite decks ever, its up there with Happy Herald, Hieratics, and Fish OTK. Now I was bragging before the list was out that no matter what the list did to Wind-Ups I would play them and top with them (Regionals top 8, or YCS.) So me being me, cocky, I had to figure out ways to play the deck assuming the worst-case scenario oddly enough it happened! Even though the banlist banned Zenamighty and hit Wind- Up Magician to 1 I knew the deck instantly was still “broken!” I even made bolder comments on some Facebook groups and thusly I am here to stand by my world to support Wind-Ups and give you my decklist and a list of some devastating combos! Also please note that in a matter of a few months we get Hidden Arsenal 7 along with Volcasarous in the Yuma tin. Those sets will give us Number: 61 as a huge body of “broken sauce” and also Diagusto Emeral and Verz Oroburous. Now with these huge additions the deck will once again be tier 1 or better and will dominate the field. Now lets get into the deck list! This decklist is the hard work of William Gonzalez, Zach Reynolds, Pieter Palmer, and myself. We have dedicated almost a week into testing with this deck and coming up the combos and one AWESOME deck list.

2x Thunder King Rai-oh

2x Summoner Monk

1x Wind-Up Magician

3x Wind-Up Shark

2x Wind-Up Warrior

3x Wind-Up Rabbit

1x Spirit Reaper

3x Wind-Up Rat

The Monsters: The first thing many people notice about my list is the lack of Tour Guides, well Im not going to deny they are useful but in testing there were more optimal cards I wanted to open and with the loss of Sangan I didn't feel it worthy to play. I was soooo saddened at Thunder King going to 2, but this deck needs to main two without exceptions due to Water being so potent and just being a good card in general. The Summoner Monks and most of the Wind-Ups are obvious, but let us get in to Wind-Up Warrior. This card is absolutely essential to the deck for the first turn Monk-Shark Shock Lock. The lock involves using M-X Saber Invoker to pull out Warrior and make Shock Master, Oroburous or OTK using 2 Photon Papilloperative. Also since Warrior increases any Wind-Up monsters level by 1 it makes Rat a one-card rank 4.

3x Wind-Up Factory

1x Forbidden Lance

3x Mystical Space Typhoon

1x Heavy Storm

1x Dark Hole

1x Monster Reborn

1x Pot of Avarice

1x Soul Taker

Spells: Since Summoner Monk needs spells I increased the spell count to tutor to that. Also the 3 Factory search your deck for al the combo pieces. But Summoner Monk also allows me to main cards like Soul Taker and Forbidden Lance to play around my opponent’s plays and also make mine. The rest of my cards are pretty explanatory.

2x Torrential Tribute

2x Bottomless Trap Hole

2x Fiendish Chain

2x Compulsory Evacuation Device

1x Dimensional Prison

1x Solemn Warning

1x Solemn Judgment

1x Starlight Road

Traps: All of the traps are self explanatory, I included Starlight Road to protect my monsters when I try to OTK or it lets me call monster effects with Shock Master and still have the out to Heavy Storm or Dark Hole.

Extra Deck: This was the most difficult part of the deck to build because the room is so tight. (That's What She Said) Nonetheless I came up with this list after testing quite a bit. It will drastically change with Yuma Tin and Hidden Arsenal 7. And Yes I know it is 16 but I couldn't cut one L so just cut your least favorite and play it that way!

1x Wind-Up Zenmaines

1x M-X Saber Invoker

1x Leviair The Sea Dragon

1x Number 20: Giga- Brilliant

1x Gagaga Cowboy

1x Abyss Dweller

1x Maestroke The Symphony Djinn

2x Photon Papilloperative

1x Number 16: Shock Master

1x Number 39:Utpoia

1x Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon

1x Tiras, Keeper of Genesis

1x Wind-Up Arsenal Zenmaioh

1x Stardust Dragon

C-C-C-O-M-B-O BREAKER- I am going to explain a few combos used to OTK, Control, or just to create huge boards with big dudes.

  1. First Turn Shock Lock

Open- Magician and Shark- Summon magician, Reveal shark, pull warrior exceed into Shock Master

Open- Monk+ Spell+ Shark- Summon monk> Pitch spell> pull magi> reveal shark> pull rat from deck> overlay magi and monk into Photon Papi> detach magi change Rat> rat pull magi> trigger Shark to 3 pull shark/warrior> make Invoker with rat and shark> Pull warrior overlay in to shock master

From the second version you can pull a Rat instead of warrior from the second magi effect and make 2 Papis to OTK one of which deal 10000 damage.

2. 10,000 Damage combo- Monk+ Spell+ Shark- Summon monk> Pitch spell> pull magi> reveal shark> pull rat from deck> overlay magi and monk into Photon Papi> detach magi change Rat> rat pull magi> trigger Shark to 3 pull Rat> Overlay old rat and shark into M-X saber Invoker> effect pull warrior> overlay warrior and magi into 2nd Papi> detach WARRIOR change rat> rats effect pull Warrior> warriors effect increase rat to 4> make Kachi Kochi Dragon for 2100+2100+2100+2100+1600= 10,000 DAMAGE.  You can also pull Shark and overlay into Giga-Brilliant to make 8800 damage

  1. Leaviar two Shark+ monk+spell OTK or Shark+Monk+spell+Factory- Monk into magician reveal shark pull rat, make Papi with monk and magi change, Rat, Rat’s effect pull magi, move shark to 3 trigger magi pulling out rabbit banishing magi, making Leviair and pull back magi revealing shark make shark a 3 making Invoker pulling warrior into Utpoia/ Kachi Kochi Dragon for anywhere from 8000 exactly to 9700.

Thank you all fore reading I hope you enjoyed! I encourage you to try out Wind-Ups for yourself again and come up with even more crazy combos which Im sure are out there. I know there are a few more that I know but for now those shall remain secret not just to give me a little advantage but also to encourage you to think outside the box and come up with your own combo that is an OTK a new way to Control the field, or just plain crazy!

PLEASE POST YOUR OWN COMBOS BELOW!!!!
