YCS Chicago Top 8 with Caleb Albert

Hey guys, I am Caleb Albert and I'm from Lansing, Michigan and at YCS Chicago I made my first top at a major YuGiOh event. I am excited to share my experiences with all of you guys. I've been playing Inzektors since they came out and after lots of testing with my close friends, I felt the most comfortable playing this deck. First, here's the decklist:

Some of the last minute changes I made the morning of the first day of play are Mind Control and Fiendish Chain. I got a tip that there were many Inzektor players and therefore added Mind Control over Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and Fiendish Chain over Forbidden Lance in the main deck.

DAY 1:

Match 1: vs Heroes (Ron Davis) 2-0

I knew Ron from my locals. He usually judged but since it was his birthday, he didn't today. He was a bounty. Both games, he couldn't stop my Inzektor combos so I won both fairly quickly.

Match 2: vs Heroes 2-1

All I remember from this game was him playing Future Fusion in game three, dumping two Alius and a Bubbleman and was left with little monsters left to fight back with.

Match 3: vs Heroes 2-0

Game two, I summoned Inzektor Dragonfly where he activates Chain Disappearance where I respond with Forbidden Lance, leaving my Dragonfly on the field, while banishing the ones from my deck. Two Leviair's later, I proceed to OTK him.

Match 4: vs Inzektors 2-1

Game three, I set Dragonfly trying to make him think it was an Inzektor Hornet and bait his Wind-Up Zenmaines (with no materials) into attack mode to make my Jurrac Guaiba use it's effect next turn. I passed but instead, he plays Tour-Guide of the Underworld to make Leviair to summon his banished Kycoo, switches his Zenmaines to attack mode to try and attack for game, only to get stopped by Dragonfly's high defense. The next turn I summon Guaiba to attack Zenmaines and XYZ summon Evolzar Laggia and then I won from there.

Match 5: vs Wind-Ups (Samual Pedigo) 2-1

Game three I started with Tour-Guide to summon Sangan and XYZ into Zenmaines and set Mystical Space Typhoon. He starts off with prohibition, calling Inzektor Hornet, summoned Wind-Up Rabbit and sets another face down spell or trap. During his End Phase, I use MST to destroy his Book of Moon. I summoned Spirit Reaper and attacked Rabbit with Zenmaines, to which he banishes himself, and attacked directly with both monsters, discarding a card from his hand. There was no recovering from this position for him.

Match 6: vs Inzektors 2-1

This player was a really cool guy. I beat him game one, then game two I get a game loss which was pretty disappointing, but luckily I beat him in game three.

Match 7: vs Heroes (Manuel Ballesteros) 1-2

Game one, he had an answer to every one of my plays so I lose fairly quickly.

Game two, I played dark hole on Alius, to which he chained Gemini Spark on my set Dust Tornado, to which I chained to hit his last back row. Then I proceeded to OTK him with my Dragonfly, Hornet, Sword combo.

Game three he wins because I have no outs to Macro Cosmos.

Match 8: vs Inzektors (Chris Hentz) 2-1

Game one I didn't draw any Hornets even after Milling half of my deck with Card Troopers. I finally get one in the graveyard but the game was over by then.

Game three, he D.D. Crow's my Hornet but luckily I had another in hand which let me go for the Dragonfly/Sword combo.

Match 9: vs Inzektors (Josh Aldric) 2-0

Not much to say here. He didn't draw that well and I drew well.

After that, I was happy to make 4th place in day one.

DAY 2:

Match 10: vs Inzektors (Hector Heras) 2-1

In game three, it came down to him needing to draw a Hornet and I needed to draw something to stop his Dragonfly in his hand. He finally drew the Hornet but I stopped it with my Fiendish Chain.

After this game, I was relieved to know that I had a guaranteed top 32 spot.

Match 11: vs Dragons 2-1

Game two, he plays Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror to which I had no outs for and quickly lost.

Game three, I quickly took the final match with my Inzektor combos.

After the swiss rounds were over, I had taken 2nd place with my record of 10-1.

TOP 32: vs Dragons (Randy Ritchie) 2-0

He was a very cool guy. Our games went fast because he couldn't stop my combos.

TOP 16: vs Heroes (Jason Jadofsky) 2-0

This game was a feature match and you can read about it here:

http://www.konami.com/yugioh/blog/?p=9089

TOP 8: vs Dino-Rabbit 1-2

Game one was quick. He summons Sabersaurus and I OTK him first turn.

Game two, I had monster reborn in hand and he had an unused Laggia on the field. I needed to draw something to use up his negation effect so I could monster reborn Dragonfly for game, but I drew MST sadly and lost the game.

Game three, he opens with Heavy Storm, Rescure Rabbit, and Solemn Judgement so there was little I could do to stop that.

Even though I had lost in the top eight, all of my friends were proud of my top 8 placement and treated me to an all expense paid dinner to Red Robins.

Now I would like to explain how I sided against my match-ups. This is very important for any tournament that you want to do well in.

Extra Deck 15:

1 Tiras, Keeper of Genesis

The biggest change to this deck is the ability to quickly summon rank 5 monsters. It is difficult for people to deal with Tiras, Keeper of Genesis and Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon.

I would finally like to thank all of my friends that supported me throughout the whole tournament. Without them, I would not have had the confidence I needed to go into the top 32. At the end of the day, I was content with how things played out.
