Thoughts and Tech for the Weekend

New Jersey is quickly approaching and it’s a special kind of event. When I say special I mean it’s going to be the only event under the current “format” where Hidden Arsenal 7 is legal but Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy isn’t out yet. These are always cool events because not everyone is preparing for it – anyone not going to Jersey is probably having fun with the new, (not) balanced cards that will be out for Nationals. That means the group of us that are going to this are testing under this sort of made up format that everyone Read more

If you know me I’m more of an online guy. I don’t have locals around me and I don’t usually go to regionals anymore. It’s actually quite funny because growing up I tried to go to every regional I could and I even tried to travel 2 hours to the nearest local as often as possible but now that I actually can do all those things I feel like there are better things to do with my time. Between all the commitments I have at home I barely have any real free time and when I do I want to Read more

This weekend marks the the beginning of a new era in the March 2013 format. If you’re preparing for YCS New Jersey or have a regional coming up like myself, I’m sure you’ve been trying to figure out the best ways to fight off new strategies brought to life by the newest set: Hidden Arsenal 7. The new viable strategies actually stretch farther than a lot of people realize, including Evilswarm, Constellar, Infernity, Gadget, and a couple new combo decks that abuse Constellar Ptolemy M7. A lot of people think it’s not Evilswarm’s time yet and personally I’m not sure Read more

So I’ve decided to take a break from my article series because there are a lot of things to talk about before YCS New Jersey in May. A lot of things happened in San Diego that have people talking but realistically all the results should be taken with a grain of salt. For example, Macro Rabbit had a huge resurgence in play and a whopping 6 made Top 32. It’s not a coincidence that so many topped because of the sheer amount of people playing it in Day 2. Usually you’ll see a small amount of people playing the anti-meta Read more

I had actually been playing a lot and dedicating myself to the game around the time the banlist was scheduled to be released. I was constantly on Skype and Dueling Network until 5 AM every night talking and testing with my friends Dalton Bousman, Samuel Pedigo, and Ted Uchigakiuchi. We were testing everything from Mermails to Dragunities. The first new format tournament was coming up and we all got on Skype the night before with Luke Feeney and that night of testing put everything into perspective. Our real options were Mermails, Fire Fist, and Dino Rabbit. I usually go by Read more

I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to continue playing or if YCS San Diego is going to put the spark back into me to continue on my Yugioh journey, but just in case I do keep losing interest I wanted to get this information out there. This is easily going to be my most important article series so I hope people can at least take something away from it. I want to talk about what separates the good and the bad players in this game. The concepts and tactics the current “pros” realized and mastered in order to Read more

I bet you opened this expecting to see me endorsing the use of Dimensional Fissure, Banisher of the Radiance, Soul Drain, and other cards like Maxx “C”, Mind Crush and Deck Devastation Virus in decks that can’t side the continuous cards. I’m glad to say this is not what this article is about, I’m not here to tell you to play cards you’re probably already using because that would be redundant and pointless. What I am going to do with this article is try to switch the gears in your mind and get you thinking about other things you could Read more

Last week I talked about Wind-Ups and the Fire deck and now I’m going to cover the other 2 projected powerhouse decks of the format: Rabbit and Mono Mermail. The Rabbit deck has seen a complete make over. At the end of last format players (including myself) were testing with [ccProd]Cardcar D[/ccProd]and [ccProd]Pot of Duality[/ccProd] and those trends have carried over to this format and people are starting to catch on. The loss of [ccProd]Sangan[/ccProd] makes the strategy even better. The deck has really turned into an anti-meta version of its former self, which doesn’t make the deck appealing to a Read more

Around this time last year I wasn’t actively playing Yu-Gi-Oh, having quit a couple months prior because I felt like I was getting a little too old to be still playing. Instead I used my free time to work towards becoming an amateur body builder and socialize by partying every weekend. Sure I talked to a ton of people at the gym and I was constantly getting texts from girls I didn’t know to come party but soon I realized I would have more fun just playing Yu-Gi-Oh again. I love food way too much and was growing tired of Read more

With the first wave of regionals finished we all have an idea of how the meta is started to shape up. Mono Mermail seems to be leading the pack with Fire Fist and Macro Rabbit not too far behind with Wind-Ups being the surprise outbreak of the weekend. This was already assumed by most players anyway and it just confirms that any strategies or theories that we had been thinking up would in fact be effective when it came to actual tournament time. There is a set way to beat all the top decks right now too. You guys already Read more
