Chaos Heroes – An Old Idea Revisited for the Current Format

Hey everybody! Happy to be back again for a 3rd time! I'm glad to see the comments left for me on my other articles, and the support I've had from so many of you offsite on places like Facebook. Many of you probably saw my previous Hero article where I alluded to a true Chaos Hero deck I was working on, and here it is! Remember, around the Yu-Gi-Oh community I go by the name dummerjmm, so if you see that name anywhere, be sure to come say Hi!.

There are really only 2 kinds of Elemental Hero players these days: Stun variants, and straight variants. Stun players, like myself, will be using cards like Thunder King Rai-Oh and Doomcaliber Knight, while straight Hero players you'll typically see abusing Fusion Gate and other Heroes such as Elemental Hero Voltic. We could delve deeper into card choices of these two decks like the old fashioned Polymerization, or even the newest and 3rd type of Hero player: Vanilla Hero Rabbit, but that isn't what I want to talk about today. Instead, I want to look at the possibility of Chaos Heroes!

As a Hero Stun player, or as I like to call the deck - 'Miracle Stun', a thought that has often crossed my mind is how could attempt to utilize more boss monsters. With the release of Elemental Hero The Shining in March, I gained access the first boss monster of its kind for Heroes. Come September 1st, we were given back the brutal power of Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, and thus a reason to be maining more Dark type monsters, turning the deck almost into Chaos.

I remembered back to my 9th place finish in February 2011 that earned me my invite to Nationals this past summer, playing Miracle Hero with 3 Doomcaliber Knight. I remembered thinking about the possibility of utilizing Chaos Sorcerer, and how Breaker the Magical Warrior could help boost the dark count in the deck. Back to the present I found myself maining "The Trio" : 1 Doomcaliber Knight, 1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, and 1 Breaker the Magical Warrior. But I wanted to extrapolate on that idea to even be able to utilize Dark Armed Dragon... Something almost unheard of in Elemental Heroes! I had become so used to stopping all these boss monsters from being played, I figured if I could continue to do that, and then be able to utilize them myself, I could be virtually unstoppable!

Thus came the birth of the following deck list:
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
3 Elemental Hero Neos Alius
2 Thunder King Rai-Oh
2 Doomcaliber Knight
2 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
1 Spirit Reaper
2 Effect Veiler
1 D.D. Crow
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
1 Tragodeia
1 Dark Armed Dragon
1 Chaos Sorcerer
1 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
3 Pot of Duality
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 E - Emergency Call
1 Allure of Darkness
2 Gemini Spark
2 Miracle Fusion
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Heavy Storm
1 Book of Moon
1 Mind Control
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Trap Dustshoot
1 Cyber Dragon
1 Thunder King Rai-Oh
1 D.D. Crow
2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
1 Spirit Reaper
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
2 Super Polymerization
1 Leeching the Light
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Chain Disappearance
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Elemental Hero The Shining
2 Elemental Hero Nova Master
1 Elemental Hero Absolute Zero
1 Elemental Hero Gaia
1 Elemental Hero Great Tornado
1 Chimeratech Fortress Dragon
1 Ally of Justice Catastor
1 Brionac Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Black Rose Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon
1 Scrap Dragon
2 #39 Utopia
[The only reason there is no Maxx "C" is because I don't have them. If I did, I would drop Effect Veiler to 1 and remove E- Emergency Call to add 2 Maxx "C".]

Now we all know thinking that any deck is "unstoppable" is a bit conceited, but you've always gotta have confidence in yourself and hope for the best right? The general idea behind the deck is to play it conservatively like you would a stun deck. Sitting behind Thunderking Rai-Oh or Doomcaliber Knight while gaining hand advantage, and utilizing cards like Gemini Spark with Elemental Hero Neos Alius to stop my opponents mid-play. With that accomplished and a graveyard beginning to fill with both lights and darks, bigger plays such as Miracle Fusion, Chaos Sorcerer, Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, and Dark Armed Dragon become live. At that point, the deck is usually going in for the kill. If something goes wrong by chance, there is always Gorz, Tragodeia, and Spirit Reaper as back up.

All in all it gives a new spin to the current Hero builds of this format. It plays at almost the same pace as a traditional Hero Stun deck would, but come mid to late game packs a much bigger punch, which is what the standard stun deck typically lacks. So far the idea has tested very well, but I feel may still be in the beta stages, so stay tuned for any updates and feel free to comment your own ideas!

Go big, or go home!
