Deck Doctor Doan

Hey fellow yugioh players! Excuse the dodgy photo but my name is Thanh Doan and you have probably never heard of me. I'm a UK player and having been playing yugioh since it arrived here. I started playing competitively about two years ago and though I might give this contest a shot. Deck reviewing is something I really like to do so I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. Lets start off with Billy's Deck:
Monsters: 19
3 Koa’ki Meiru Guardian
3 Koa’ki Meiru Sandman
3 Koa’ki Meiru Wall
3 Block Golem
2 Card Trooper
2 Maxx “C”
2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
1 Neo-Spacian Grandmole

Spells:10
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Soul Taker
2 Pot of Duality
1 Seal of Orichalcos
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole

Traps: 12
2 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
2 Call of the Haunted
2 Bottomless Traphole
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road

Extra Deck: 15
2 Gem-Knight Pearl
2 Kochi Kochi Dragon
2 Soul of Silver Mountain
1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaister
1 Gachi Gachi
1 Fairy King Albverdich
1 Gaia Knight, Force of Earth
1 Naturia Beast
1 Naturia Barkion
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon

It's a rock stun deck. The aim of the deck is to put your opponent in a bad position by negating their monster effects, spells and traps with Koa'ki Meirus whilst also protecting them with traps. Block Golem is a key part of the deck because he makes it more potent by allowing you to revive your rock monsters for more negation or xyzs. There are two conditions which you must fulfil for the deck to be successful.

  1. You must have a rock monster in hand to pay the maintenance cost for your Koa'ki Meirus.
  2. All of the monsters in your graveyard must be EARTH-attribute for block golem.

Monsters

-2 Card Trooper

+2 Legendary Jujitsu Master

As you can see, Billy is using 3 Block Golems so he really wants the deck to focus around them. Although card trooper does help with putting rocks into the grave, in a deck where you are running more spells and traps than monsters there's a good chance that you won't mill many monsters. Even having one non-EARTH monster can going to disrupt your block golems so its best to stay all-earth.

Some players don't like Jujitsu master but I've added him here for a couple of reasons. One of the main problems this deck has is having enough rock monsters in hand. There's often a time where you only have two Koa'ki Meirus, one on the field and one in your hand that you really want to summon but can't because you won't have any rock monsters left so Jujitsu master is helpful in that respect. A 'solid' first turn play to set him and save your Koa'ki Meirus. He facilitates easy rank 3s with Block Golem opening a lot of useful plays in this deck.

E.g. You can xyz into soul of silvermountain, detach an xyz material to lock down a trap, destroy a monster by battle and reborn that Jujitsu master (which you just detached) in face-up defense position!
I decided to leave the Maxx "C"s in since it has some synergy with the deck being earth-attribute and gives it much needed draw power. Veilers would have been great here but I'm focusing on the Block Golems.

Spells

-1 Orihalcos

-1 Soul Taker

-1 MST

+3 Forbidden Lance

2400 attack beaters that negate cards are nothing to laugh at but accessing the extra deck is important when you're running 3 golems. Soul taker isn't necessary here but I decided to leave one in for dealing with stallers (reaper, marshmallon, ancient fairy dragon). Took out a typhoon because lance can do a little more.

Forbidden lance is such a versatile and useful card for the deck. Saves your koa'kis against bottomless and dimensional prison so you can guarantee your rocks will be hitting the grave for block golem. It also helps you get over bigger monsters and opens up some really fun plays with Jujitsu master. I chose 3 copies because it's a card you'll want to see often.

Traps

-1 Starlight

-1 Torrential Tribute

-1 Dimensional Prison

+1 Mirror Force

+1 Needle Ceiling

+1 Compulsory Evacuation Device

Starlight is made obsolete in this deck by having Wall to protect your backrow as he can negate MST as well as storm. It's absence however can help you play a few mind games with your opponent (which I'm sure Billy is good at). I took out one torrential because you don't want to take out your field too often and a dimensional prison since you only need one as you're running two bottomless.

So right now you are asking me why needle ceiling in the main deck? Needle ceiling reads:

When there are 4 or more monsters on the field: Destroy all face-up monsters.

Torrential takes out every monster whereas ceiling is more selective. Its a great card that allows you to play defensively by setting legendary cards such as Fossil Dyna and Jujitsu Master! It also combos well with those two Maxx “C”s I left in because it lets you gain advantage from your opponent's special summons whilst also punishing them for swarming you.

Added in mirror force because it lets you regain control of the game when playing against a huge field. Swapped compulsory for starlight because its chainable and gets rid of Zenmaines. Also can be used to bounce on of your own xyzs (non-earth) to save it hitting the grave.

Extra Deck

-1 Naturia Beast

-1 Naturia Barkion

-1 Gaia Knight, Force of Earth

-1 Scrap Dragon

-1 Stardust Dragon

+1 Wind-Up Zenmaines (maintains field presence and control)

+1 Photon Papilloperative (out to spirit reaper)

+1 Number 39: Utopia (protects monsters)

+1 Maestroke the Symphony Djinn (same as papilloperative and field presence)

+1 Steelswarm Roach (out to chaos dragons, synchros, BLS etc)

Even though some of these cards aren't earths, desperate times can call for desperate measures but just be careful when playing one of them . You won't be synchroing very often with no tuners in the deck. No starlight road means no stardust dragon. Shiba-Warrior Taro is looking at me with those eyes but its still not enough to leave the naturia synchros in! You can be flexible with the extra deck, if you find you don't want to or can't get any of these then make do with what you have or can get.

Thanks for that decklist Billy, now we'll move onto Joe's HERO Gishki Turbo Deck:

3 Gishki Soul Ogre
3 Gishki Vision
3 Destiny Hero Plasma
2 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 Trageodia

2 Tour Guide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
1 Gishki Shadow
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
1 Dark Armed Dragon
1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness

3 Destiny Draw
3 Trade-In
3 Miracle Fusion
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Salvage
1 Gishki Aquamirror
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn

1 Grenosaurus
1 Melomelody the Brass Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction
1 Temtempo Percussion Djinn
1 Maestroke Symphony Djinn
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
1 Number 11: Big Eye
1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger
1 Black Rose Dragon

I really like this deck because it's an ingenuitive and fun to play deck. Of course hybriding Gishkis and (D-)HEROs will lead to some consistency problems but this deck can do a lot of things. Taking a glance at the spells you see three Trade-Ins and 3 Destiny Draws and it screams "DEAD, DEAD, DEAD" at you. So how does Joe mitigate drawing into one of these with no discard material? Destiny HERO Diamond Dewd! This guy can be abused in so many ways:

Once per turn: You can reveal the top card of your Deck, and if it is a Normal Spell Card, send it to the Graveyard, otherwise place it on the bottom of your Deck. During the Main Phase of your next turn, you can activate the effect of that Spell Card in your Graveyard (even if you no longer control this face-up card).

So if you use the effect of Destiny Dude and hit a Trade-In or Destiny Draw, next turn you will get to draw 2 cards (a +2 out of nowhere) and the best part of it is you don't have to discard a monster for it. Diamond Dude says that you can activate the effect of the Spell Card only so you don't have to pay the cost. However with cards like allure of darkness and miracle fusion, you'll still have to banish as it's part of the effect. Other plays include recyclable Evigishki boss monsters and E-HERO fusions straight out of the grave. Enough waffling, let's make a start!

Monsters

-1 Dark Armed Dragon

-1 Evigishki Soul Ogre

-1 Gishki Vision

+1 Diamond Dude

+1 Evigishki Gustkraken

+1 Gishki Shadow

Say what? You just took out Dark Armed Dragon?

I cut DAD because its not so perfect ritual or Trade-In material and doesn't help to make the deck more consistent. Gorz is also level 7 but offers more defence than DAD so he is needed. I still kept the Tour Guide engine because it searches Sangan easily who can search key parts of your deck such as Diamond Dude, Gishki Vision and Gishki Shadow. I added in another Diamond Dude so I can get his effect off earlier which is important to get all of the power cards that you need.

I took out a Soul ogre because he ends up being a 2800 beater after you've used up resources to summon him so you won't often get to use his effect. I added in Gustkraken because he helps you deal with impending threats like Judgment Dragon and helps you gain information on your opponent's hand. Search him only when you can summon him of course.

Swapped out a Vision for a Shadow because it helps loop aquamirror more effectively and you often run out of Evigishkis to search. The deck only has defense in the form of Tragoedia and Gorz but I wouldn't suggest veilers because you'll be pushing your opponent's monsters back with Absolute Zero. Veiler is a great card in any deck but it'll get in the way of those Trade-Ins and D-Draws.

Spells

-1 MST

-1 Allure of Darkness

+2 Pot of Duality

Took out an MST because it's a quickplay and won't work with diamond dude. Backrow removal is still necessary of course but is best for when you can push for game. Allure isn't too helpful as you end up banishing a possible Trade-In target. Also doesn't work as well as other cards with Diamond Dude.

Pot of Duality is the epitome of consistency. It helps you to gather key cards like Stratos and Diamond Dude. Also if you mill it with Diamond Dude, during your next Main Phase you can look at the top 3 cards of your deck, choose one and still be able to special summon that turn. The special summoning clause is a condition tied with activating the card. With diamond dude you are only activating the effect of the card.

Extra Deck

1 Grenosaurus
1 Melomelody the Brass Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction
1 Temtempo Percussion Djinn
1 Maestroke Symphony Djinn
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
1 Number 11: Big Eye
1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger
1 Black Rose Dragon

-1 Grenosaurus

-1 Number 11: Big Eye

-1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger

-1 Black Rose Dragon

+3 Elemental HERO Absolute Zero

+1 Elemental HERO Escuridao

Took out the rank 7s because you won't be able to summon them. Grenosaurus is a sub-par rank 3 monster that isn't needed. Black Rose is gone because we don't have any tuners. Melomelody isn't necessary but could help you deal some damage to help you push for game more easily.

The deck was mainly missing those E-HERO fusions and since we're running 3 miracle fusions, we'll run 3 Absolute Zero should you ever go through all of them. Escuridao is in there as a backup for when you only have Stratos and a Dark monster in grave.

My Take on Joe's Deck:

2 Gishki Soul Ogre
2 Gishki Vision
3 Destiny Hero Plasma
3 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 Trageodia

2 Tour Guide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
2 Gishki Shadow
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
1 Evigishki Gustkraken
1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness

3 Destiny Draw
3 Trade-In
3 Miracle Fusion
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Salvage
1 Gishki Aquamirror
1 Reinforcement of the Army
2 Pot of Duality
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn

1 Elemental HERO Escuridao
1 Melomelody the Brass Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction
1 Temtempo Percussion Djinn
1 Maestroke Symphony Djinn
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
3 Elemental HERO Absolute Zero

Thanks for the decklist Joe and that rounds it up for today. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope I didn't kill the two decks haha!
