Deck Doctor – James Frazier

Hello everyone! My name is James Frazier and I am here to doctor up some decks! I just started playing the game of Yugioh competitively earlier this year. I am always experimenting  with different deck ideas and choices which is why I think this article position would be perfect for me! We are going to be looking  at the deck lists of two very well known duelist this week!  First we have Billy Brakes Rock Stun deck which consists of a bunch of 1900 bodies that pretty much control the duel. Next we have Joe Giorlando's Giski Hero Turbo deck, which is going to pump out Fusion monsters and ritual monsters all at once!

So lets get right into it. Here is the deck list Billy provided me with:

Billy Brake's Rock Stun Deck:

Monsters: 19

3 Koa’ki Meiru Guardian

3 Koa’ki Meiru Sandman

3 Koa’ki Meiru Wall

3 Block Golem

2 Card Trooper

2 Maxx “C”

2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo

1 Neo-Spacian Grandmole

Spells:10

3 Mystical Space Typhoon

2 Soul Taker

2 Pot of Duality

1 Seal of Orichalcos

1 Monster Reborn

1 Dark Hole

Traps: 12

2 Dimensional Prison

2 Solemn Warning

2 Call of the Haunted

2 Bottomless Trap hole

2 Torrential Tribute

1 Solemn Judgment

1 Starlight Road

Extra Deck: 15

2 Gem-Knight Pearl

2 Kachi Kochi Dragon

2 Soul of Silver Mountain

1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn

1 Wind-Up Zenmaister

1 Gachi Gachi

1 Fairy King Albverdich

1 Gaia Knight, Force of Earth

1 Naturia Beast

1 Naturia Barkion

1 Scrap Dragon

1 Stardust Dragon

Monsters:

So the 9 Koa'ki Meiru monsters and the 3 Block Golems are the core so they obviously get to stay. I actually like Card Trooper in here, not only to mill your rock-type monsters for Block Golem but a 1900 body that can crash with Thunder King and give you a little bit of draw power is never bad. Maxx C's are not great in the meta right now but they are good enough. You need something to combat Wind-ups plus not to mention all the new archetypes coming out in Abyss Rising. Our little mole gets to stay in a format where them black and white cards exist!

Now its time for the changes. I would take out two Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo. They are good against Wind-ups and a few other decks but lackluster against some of the top decks as well. These also get in the way of Call of the Haunted and Block Golem. I would advise Billy to just move these to the side deck for certain match ups. The last reason I decided to take Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo out was to make room for this guy, X-Saber Pashuul. This 2-star tuner can hold off swarms off your opponents monsters for the price of just 1000 life points on your standby phase if he is in face-up defense position of course. X-Saber Pashuul can also be used with Card Trooper or Block Golem to make Naturia Beast or any of the level 4 Earths to make Naturia Barkion! This is going to add explosion that the deck needs. In testing Its been nice to make a quick Barkion and drop a Block Golem for the game!

Spells:

We have a somewhat standard spell lineup in this deck. First we have 3 Mystical Space Typhoon to clear the opponents backrow with the absense of Heavy Storm since this deck runs a very high trap count. We have 2 Soul Takers to clear the big threats that this deck cannot get over. 2 Pot of Dualitys work well in this deck because of its slower pace. Monster Reborn and Dark Hole need no explanation. All of these cards get to stay.

Now lets change up the spell lineup a bit. First I would cut Soul Taker to 1 since you have a slew of traps and Dark Hole, so 2 is a bit much I think. Next I would cut Seal of Orichalcos. This card conflicts with all the same cards that Fossil Dyna did and it limits our newly added Pashuul. The one spell card I would add would be one copy of Forbidden Lance for extra protection on the Koa'ki Meiru summons. This card will also act as a trap on your opponents to help get over huge monsters. The spell lineup when finsihed will  be at 9 cards.

Traps:

We have 12 traps in Billy Brakes Original build. These are all pretty much standard traps except of course the 2 copies of Call of the Haunted. I'm going to keep these in here for a couple of reasons. First since it has good synergy with Card Trooper. Secondly because this card also allows for even bigger plays with Block golem and Synchro Summons with X-Saber Pashuul. I'm also going to leave Starlight Road in. I'm aware that it can get in the way of Block Golem but usually when you resolve this card you have won the game. In  worst case scenario, he could just choose not to summon Stardust Dragon.

The two traps that need to come out right away are the two copies of Torrential Tribute. Field nukes are not what this deck needs. In their place i'm going to put in 2 copies of Fiendish Chain to slow down the opponent even more in their turn. We still have 1 spot left over in this deck because  the extra spell card I cut. The last trap I would add would be reinforce truth! This card will be solely used to summon X-Saber pashuul from your deck. You have to skipp your battle phase during the turn you use it but this isnt going to hurt us because were going to use this during the opponents end phase! This card will also allow us to set 2 traps on turn 1 with no fear of Heavy Storm  because this card is indeed chain-able!

Extra:

Now when I first seen his decklist the extra deck was going to get a huge makeover. This was before I decided to go with X-Saber Pashuul. There still are some changes we are going to make though. I would take out 1 copy of Soul Of Silvermountain, Kachi Kochi Dragon and Gem-knight Pearl. I would add in a second Naturia Barkion. I would also add a Wind-up Zenmaines and Maestroke The Symhpony Djinn. Once again, I know that Maestroke and Zenmaines conflict with Block Golem but you would only be making these when you absolutely have to. Also, luckily these guys have effects that keep them on the field for a while so your Block Golems will still be live for a couple turns.

Alright next we have the deck Joe Giorlando provided to me:

Joe Giorlando’s Gishki Hero Turbo Deck:

Monsters: 20

3 Gishki Soul Ogre

3 Gishki Vision

3 Destiny Hero Plasma

2 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude

2 Trageodia

2 Tour Guide from the Underworld

1 Sangan

1 Gishki Shadow

1 Elemental Hero Stratos

1 Dark Armed Dragon

1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness

Spells: 20

3 Destiny Draw

3 Trade-In

3 Miracle Fusion

3 Mystical Space Typhoon

2 Salvage

1 Gishki Aquamirror

1 Reinforcement of the Army

1 Allure of Darkness

Extra Deck: 15

1 Blade Armor Ninja

1 Heroic Champion Excalibur

1 Number 39: Utopia

1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis

1 Number 11: Big Eye

1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger

1 Black Rose Dragon

Monsters:

So the point of this deck is speed speed speed! Its going summon Rituals, Fusions and Xyzs all at once and it also wields the power of Dark Armed Dragon. Also this deck runs the powerful hand trap monsters known as Gorz, The Emissary of Darkness and Tragoedia. These guys will be your protection since you dont run any traps. The monster lineup looks pretty good. The only change i'm making is adding in a second Destiny HERO - Diamond Dude to add first turn consistency and make them Miracle Fusions and Destiny Draws even more alive!

Spells:

Draw power, Removal and Explosiveness! Thats what this decks spells are all about. I'm removing both copies of Salvages because I found them really dead or just uneeded in testing. I'm also removing the copy of Allure of Darkness since this deck has enough draw power as is, and you really dont want to be removing your dad and miracle fusion fodder. I'm adding in two Pot of Dualitys to help with bad hands. Pot of Duality also combos well with Diamond Dude since it is ruled that you can still special summon if you use Duality's effect with him.

Traps:

This deck originally had no traps in it, and thats going to stay the same.

Extra:

This is where we really need to do some construction. I'm taking out Melomelody the Brass Djinn, Grenosaurus, Black Rose Dragon, Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger and Number 11: Big Eye. These cards are just too situational and there are better options to go with. I'm going to add in 3 copies of Elemental HERO Absolute Zero to make his Miracle Fusions actually live and lethal! I'm also going to add in an Elemental HERO Escuridao and a Evigishki Merrowgiest. Escuridao will just be another Miracle fusion target if you have stratos and no waters in grave. Merrowgiest is great this format against Sangan, Geargiaccelerator, Card trooper and many others! He is also a water for miracle fusion.
