Deck Doctor: Machina Gadgets and Beast Stun!

What’s up boys and girls, its T-Time! I’ve been out of town a lot lately so I haven’t been able to write up an article in a few weeks. I lost on the bubble at the North American WCQ and unfortunately ended up in 75th place. Anyways, I am back this week looking at Edward White’s Machina Gadget deck and Nicohlas Burgess’s Beast Stun deck. Hopefully you all like this deck doctor article more than the last one!

Okay, so Machina Gadgets is my specialty. I’ve tested this in every format and I’ve tried to make adjustments to what I feel fits best in this format. The build you have is already pretty good but there are a few things that I would change. I want to add Ultimate Offering because it adds an element of explosion to the deck that I feel is vital to the format. In addition, it should never really be a negative to have. It is like a mini Future Fusion in this deck. If it goes off, you should probably win. Even if you can’t attack your opponent for game, you should be able to put them in a pretty awful position. A lot of people don’t know the power of Ultimate Offering, so it is easy to catch them off guard. Your opponent cannot activate Solemn Warning in response to Ultimate Offering at any point. Also, if Ultimate Offering is already face up on the field and you pay the cost to activate the effect, if your opponent chooses to chain Mystical Spacey Typhoon, you have the ability to chain Ultimate Offering again. If you have multiple Gadgets in your hand, you can even chain it on top of that chain to summon twice or three times in the same chain. Unfortunately, the gadgets will miss their timing, but sometimes it doesn’t matter if it will be for game. Also, don’t forget that you can activate it in your opponent’s Battle Phase.

If you are playing Ultimate offering, it may be redundant to play Gorz. Not only will you be cutting your own lifepoints but you will have continuous Trap cards on the field. With this deck in general, you will want to be setting a lot, even if they are bluffs like Pot of Avarice and Soul Taker. In all of my experience playing this deck, Gorz has seemed like a good idea but has always been dead, so I’m going to cut it. Another card that should be cut is Machina Cannon. It is honestly no more useful than Machina Force, it is only the idea of better. There is really no scenario in which you would choose to summon it, so outside of being a Monster Reborn for Machina Fortress, it is completely dead. I have never liked the idea of that and therefore I think it should be cut. I also want to cut Mind Control because outside of wasting an Effect Veiler to Synchro Summon, you are completely reliant on your opponent having a level 4 monster (or level 7). I think Mind Control is a great card, just not in this deck. Finally, in the Trap lineup, I cut Mirror Force. I hate that card with a passion in this format. It really never succeeds in any matchup that I have found. Dimensional Prison has been better across the board. Inherently this card is very good, but in the current environment it is too slow.

So I added 2 Ultimate Offerings for reasons I had discussed earlier. Then I added a Compulsory Evacuation Device because I feel that that card is incredibly versatile in this format and handles a lot of problems that slower options (Mirror Force) do not. For the Extra Deck, I will let you guys be creative. Here is the deck with my changes:
Monsters: 15
3X Machina Gearframe
3X Machina Fortress
2X Yellow Gadget
2X Red Gadget
2X Green Gadget
3X Effect Veiler

Spells: 13

1X Heavy Storm
1X Dark Hole
1X Monster Reborn
2X Mystical Space Typhoon
1X Pot of Avarice
1X Book of Moon
1X Limiter Removal
2x Soul Taker

Traps: 12
2X Bottomless Trap Hole
2X Torrential Tribute
2X Solemn Warning
1X Solemn Judgment
1X Compulsory Evacuation Device
2X Dimensional Prison
2X Ultimate Offering

Beast Stun

Monsters: 17
3X Photon Saber Tiger
3X T.G. Rush Rhino
3X T.G. Warwolf
3X Tour Guide from the Underworld
2X Wind-Up Rabbit
1X Sangan
1X Beast King Barbaros
1X T.G. Striker

Spells: 8
2X Pot of Duality
2X Forbidden chalice
1X Heavy Storm
1X Monster Reborn
1X Dark Hole
1X Book of Moon

Traps: 15
3X Horn of the Phantom Beast
2X Bottomless Trap Hole
2X Solemn Warning
2X Skill Drain
2X Torrential Tribute
1X Dark Bribe
1X Starlight Road
1X TG1-EM1
1X Solemn Judgment

This is a very cool deck, but I think you got a little carried away with the idea of Wind-Up Rabbit. It is a good card and should be in the deck but I think you went pretty far trying to support it with the Tour Guides to get Zenmaighty. Though cool, it is a little contradictory to the point of the deck. The deck shuts down your opponent’s cards while you destroy them and continue to gain advantage since your monsters replace themselves (much like Gadgets). Your monsters float and that is great but they also have some amazing type-specific cards like Horn of the Phantom Beast and TG1-EM1. I think TG1-EM1 is one of the most broken cards in the game and I think you should be playing at least two of them. When that card goes off, it can change the game on a dime, much like a well-timed Super Polymerization in Heroes.

I dislike the Tour Guides because they conflict with Skill Drain, Pot of Duality, and the basic theme of the deck. It also gives you too many monsters to summon and it is easy to get monster clogged. I also cut one Wind-Up Rabbit because though it is a great card, it also has to deal with Skill Drain and isn’t a floater (we can call it a runner). I added another Beast King Barbaros because that is one of the best cards that this deck can summon. If that card is summoned with Skill Drain, it puts a lot of pressure on your opponent. Also, simply summoning him gives your opponent the fear that you are going to flip over Skill Drain on the attack. A lot of this decks advantage is to bluff cards that you may or may not have in your backrow. For Spells, I added Pot of Avarice to renew your floaters when they start to thin and give yourself some card advantage in the process. I also added a third Pot of Duality since it helps you get to your combos faster and keeps you from getting clogged.

For the Traps, I added a TG1-EM1 as I said I would. I cut the Dark Bribe because I dislike that card for all kinds of reasons. I think it has been good I the past, but this format is dominated by monster effects and I don’t think it gets the job done as well as it has in the past. I also added a Compulsory Evacuation Device. I know it seems as though I just love the card and am adding it to anything, but it is a great option to any slower deck that has the option of adding it. It takes care of a lot of problem cards and is a fast way to deal with big problems. Plus you cannot really add Mirror Force/Dimensional Prisons in to this deck since you want your opponent to attack into the threat of Horn. Anyways, below is my final build of what I think the deck should look like:
Monsters: 14
3X Photon Saber Tiger
3X T.G. Rush Rhino
3X T.G. Warwolf
1X Wind-Up Rabbit
1X Sangan
2X Beast King Barbaros
1X T.G. Striker

Spells: 10
3X Pot of Duality
2X Forbidden chalice
1X Heavy Storm
1x Pot of Avarice
1X Monster Reborn
1X Dark Hole
1X Book of Moon

Traps: 16
3X Horn of the Phantom Beast
2X Bottomless Trap Hole
2X Solemn Warning
2X Skill Drain
2X Torrential Tribute
1X Compulsory Evacuation Device
1X Starlight Road
2X TG1-EM1
1X Solemn Judgment

Thank you for reading and I will be back soon with more articles! If you want to submit your decklist for the Deck Doctor section, please email me a list at deckdoctor@alterealitygames.com. Please be sure to write out the decklist and use proper numbering and full names as if you were filling out a deck list. Please do not send me screen shots or images since it takes me longer to think through them. I am old school and like to look at lists, maybe because I am from the Metagame era… I digress, thank you for reading and please leave a comment if you have any questions or concerns!
