What’s up boys and girls, its T-Time! I am coming in with another deck doctor article and this time I am only focusing on one deck. In doctoring two decks in past articles, it seems as though people tended to focus on one deck over the other and that usually ment the more themed deck. Rather than mixing apples and oranges, I am going to be looking specifically at Jon Lewis’s Zombie deck. In the upcoming weeks, I will try to feature decks that have a good chance of seeing more playability in the next format. Zombies dominated the format after Tactical Evolution and rose to Tier 1 again after Hidden Arsenal 1 was released. We will be revisiting many of the concepts that made this deck so powerful then by considering the floaters, recruiters, and Special Summon explosions. Well without further ado, here is the deck

First we cut all of the irrelevant monsters and there are a lot of them. Right off of the bat I am going to cut the Blue Blooded Onis because they are situational and a turn 2 or later play. Half of the XYZ monsters that will be summoned with this deck are going to be because of Tour Guide, so zombies won’t always be used. Next we cut the Summoner Monks and 2 of the Zombie Masters. If those cards get hit with Effect Veiler, you are likely in some big trouble. The bigger issue is Summoner Monk, since usually the card you are pitching is more useful than normal summoning a rank 4 XYZ monster. I will keep one Zombie Master due to its explosiveness late game, plus it can be easily searched out with all of your recruiters. Next to go is Deep Sea Diva. It is a great card, just not in this deck. It doesn’t have enough synergy with the archetype and with only 2 it is way too risky. We are going to cut the Thunder Kings next, even though they are proving to be a great card at the end of this format. They can be problematic with your searchers and waste a normal summon, which in this deck can be crucial. Next, I am going to cut your boss monster Black Luster Soldier and replace it with Dark Armed Dragon. Big bad DAD has a lot more synergy with the deck and can be easily dropped with the amount of graveyard manipulation this archetype has.
The adding of monsters will continue with 2 Spirit Reapers. That card is far too good in Zombies and in general to not play. The Pyramid Turtle+ Creature Swap (spoiler alert) play into Spirit Reaper can be one of the oldest and best momentum swings in the game. For some power and more old school advantage, I added 2 Caius the Shadow Monarch. It is relatively unexpected and can be devastating in this deck. I kept in the Tour Guides as a quick out to problem cards and because they are a floater in their own right. The biggest reason though is for the easy access to Leviair the Sea Dragon. As another spoiler, I chose against adding Burial from a Different Dimension due to Leviair being in the game. He lets you float Mezuki, Plaguespreader, and makes Allure of Darkness worth playing. I am going to add an Effect Veiler to the deck because you really need the protection. You are very vulnerable to an Inzektor matchup, even with Book of Life. Book is too slow and that deck can decimate you. In addition to that, your opponent will be desperate to make a Leviair to steal your banished monsters, so you will need to shut down their Tour Guides, Rabbits, and especially their Wind-Up Carriers. I also added Gorz, since it is a monster that you shouldn’t do without (especially without playing continuous cards). That gives us a solid recurring, recruiting, floating 20 monster lineup.
I am going to cut the Zombie Worlds right off of the bat. I see what you were trying to do with them, and I actually think they are a solid side deck card. It is surprisingly good against Chaos Dragons and Dino Rabbit. In Rabbit, they can’t make Dolkka or Laggia with it on the field. In Chaos Dragons, it completely shuts down Light Pulsar Dragon and Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. In the main deck, it is too often another card that will just sit there. I cut Book of Life to 1, though it is a very good card. In this deck, you are trying to build to your push, and when that time comes, one will be sufficient. I added 2 Creature Swaps like I said I would because that card can turn a game on a dime and you play plenty of floaters. Next, I added Enemy Controller because it helps you play around Effect Veiler with some of your cards and works well with all of your floaters. I added 2 Mystical Space Typhoons because there are just too good right now. They are great bluffs in your backrow that can help you make your big push later. For the Trap lineup, I just added 2 Bottomless Trap Holes because they help stop major problems while you are making your setup. I know 41 cards can seem a little outdated, but here I think it works just fine. I would like to add that another card that should sit in the side deck outside of those Thunder Kings is Skill Drain. With all of your floaters, you can do a transformational side deck involving Skill Drain, Thunder King, and Doomcaliber Knight. Few decks have the ability to do this, but this is definitely one that does. Especially considering you know that they are bringing in their Graveyard hate.
Thank you for reading! If you have any comments please leave them below and I will do my best to answer any questions or concerns. I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion and they love to share that. Try to understand that this deck is probably not able to compete with most Tier 1 decks right now, but has potential to in the future. If you would like to submit a deck for this section, please email it to me at deckdoctor@altereality.com. I cannot get to everybody’s deck, but I do read through all of the submissions. Also, please submit it as a deck list and not as a Dueling Network image. It is much harder for me to see the cards and type it out myself. I’m old school and not as good at conceptualizing that way. Anyways, thanks again for reading!
