Finals Feature Match Patrick Hoban (Mythic Rulers) vs. Alyxander Lisgathe (Loli Control)

After two long arduous days, these two have made it into the finals. The 15th and 16th seed of the tournament have gone through the gauntlet having to defeat the higher seeds to get to this point today, a win here is truly an accomplishment. Unlike the other rounds, this match will be a best out of 5 instead of a best of 3.

Game 1

Alyx wins the die roll and elects to play first. He kicks things off by playing Card Trooper to send Flamvell Guard and Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos to the graveyard. An Upstart Goblin follows and a Cards of Consonance discarding Influence Dragon is dropped. 3 backrow concludes his turn.

Hoban plays a Patrick Hoban to draw a new card, and a Gold Sarcophagus banishes Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders to add a Mythic Tree Dragon comes after. Kuribandit is summoned and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast Discarding a Cards of Consonance spins it back to the top of the deck. Hoban plays Foolish Burial to send Blaster to the Graveyard and he sets a backrow before passing.

Alyx draws and mills blanks with Trooper for his turn and just swings for 1900 before setting a card and passing.

Hoban plays another Upstart Goblin to draw into a Dragon Shrine and contemplates his plays before deciding to play Mythic Tree Dragon. Vanity’s Emptiness is flipped and Hoban ends up just setting a card and passing.

Alyx draws and mills White Stone of Legend off of Trooper letting him add a Blue-Eyes White Dragon to his hand and getting rid of his Emptiness. He plays a Trade-In discarding Blue-Eyes and another Trade-In discarding Mythic Water Dragon to put his hand count to 4. Running some numbers he decides to just play Soul Charge bringing back Blaster, Blue-Eyes, White Stone, and Flamvell Guard but Hoban has a Maxx “C” for that. Alyx sends Blaster and White Stone to the graveyard to make Scrap Dragon. He uses the effect to destroy his Card Trooper and Mythic Tree Dragon. He turns the Blue-Eyes and Guard into Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon before ending his turn.

Hoban with a loaded grip of cards flips his set Dragon Shrine to send Flamvell Guard and Tempest to the Graveyard. He banishes Maxx “C” and Tempest to bring out Redox to the field adding Debris Dragon to his hand. He summons Debris Dragon to bring back Guard, and uses the Debris Dragon and Redox to make Star Eater. Pressing forward, he banishes Debris and Tree Dragon to bring out Blaster and uses Guard and Blaster to make Colossal Fighter. Star Eater punches over Azure-Eyes and Colossal Kills the Scrap Dragon before making a direct attack. Hoban sets 3 and passes.

7100-3200

Alyx begins his turn by banishing Tempest and Blue-Eyes for Blaster and adding Debris Dragon to his hand off of Tempest. Debris gets summoned bringing back Card Trooper and Hoban spins Debris Dragon back to the top of the deck with Phoenix Wing Wind Blast. Alyx ditches Redox and Card Trooper to bring back Scrap Dragon, which destroys Trooper and Star Eater before setting a card and passing.

Hoban banishes Blaster and Star Eater to bring out Redox, adds Flamvell Guard to his hand with the effect and sends Blue Eyes and Tidal to the graveyard with a Dragon Shrine. He plays one of his set cards, Cards of Consonance ditching the Guard to draw into 2 Soul Charges. He plays his last set, Sacred Sword of Seven Stars to banish his Redox and draw into a Torrential Tribute and Burial from a Different Dimension. He banishes Mythic Water Dragon and a Flamvell Guard to bring out Tidal and uses Burial to send Tempest, Redox, and Blaster back to his graveyard. He banishes Guard and Blue-eyes for Tempest and overlays the two for Number 11: Big Eye to take Alyx’s Scrap Dragon. Scrap Destroys Big Eye and Alyx’s set Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, but Phoenix spins Colossal Back to the Extra Deck. Unable to put game onto the field, Hoban uses Soul Charge for all 4 of his Dragon Rulers and turns them into double Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossacks, ending his turn in a dominant position with a set Torrential Tribute.

Alyx starts his turn by playing Debris Dragon for a Card Trooper that wiffs on all three mills. He kills the tokens and in MP2 makes Black Rose Dragon to get rid of the field. He continues his play by bringing out Blaster and Redox and turning the two into Dracossack of his own.

Hoban after a few minutes decides to finally play Dragon Shrine sending White Stone of Legend to the graveyard. After another few minutes he plays Soul Charge bringing back White Stone and Blaster, and turns the two into a Scrap Dragon. He banishes Tidal and White Stone to bring out Blaster and adds Mythic Water Dragon to his hand. Trying to think of a way out, but not being able to find the right route Hoban finally concedes the game.

Game 2

Hoban starts of game 2 by playing Kuribandit, setting a card, and excavating Dragon Shrine to his hand losing out on Trade-In, Blue-Eyes, Burial, and Torrential Tribute.

Alyx begins by playing his own Shrine to send Blue-Eyes and Blaster to the graveyard before setting two and passing.

Hoban sets a card and passes.

Alyx plays another Shrine to send Guard and Redox to the graveyard. He banishes Blue-Eyes and Blaster to bring back Redox, but that’s met by Bottomless Trap Hole. Flamvell Guard is adding to his hand and he passes his turn.

Hoban draws Emptiness for his turn and passes.

Alyx plays Gold Sarcophagus banishing Tidal to add Water to his hand and passing.

Hoban plays Cards of Consonance discarding Flamvell Guard and continues his turn by banishing Guard and Blue-Eyes for Blaster. Alyx plays a Maxx “C” and Hoban decides to just attack for 2800. In MP2 Kuribandit is played Excavating all Spells and Traps, netting Hoban a Dragon Shrine. An MST in the EP hits Hoban’s Compulse.

Alyx starts his turn by discarding Blue-Eyes off of Trade-In and playing Burial from a Different Dimension to send back Blue-Eyes, Redox, and Blaster to this Graveyard. Redox banishes Blue-Eyes and Maxx “C” to bring itself out, but Hoban plays a Maxx “C” of his own to stymie Alyx.

Hoban uses Dragon Shrine to send Tidal to the graveyard and plays Phoenix Wing Wind Blast discarding Dragon Shrine to send Alyx’s set card to the top of the deck. Hoban banishes guard and Tidal to bring out Blaster and summons White Stone of Legend to make Stardust Spark Dragon. He sets a card and passes his turn.

Alyx uses Redox’s effect discarding Mythic Tree Dragon, but Hoban has Emptiness to stop the play. He sets two cards and a monster before passing.

Hoban swings over a Trooper and passes.

Alyx plays Trade-In discarding Water Dragon, uses Dragon Shrine to send Tempest to the Graveyard, and sets a card to his backrow, clearly not being able to answer Spark Dragon/Emptiness yet.

Hoban attacks with Spark Dragon directly and passes.

Hoban attacks over D.D. Crow, sets a card and passes. In the EP, Alyx uses Phoenix Wing Wind Blast to send Spark back to the Extra Deck.

Alyx draws and plays MST killing Hoban’s Upstart Goblin/Emptiness before bringing out Redox by banishing Maxx “C” and Card Trooper. Hoban has a Maxx “C” of his own, but undeterred, Alyx summons a White Stone and makes a Spark Dragon of his own, attacks, and sets a card before passing

Hoban starts his turn by Foolish Burialing a Redox to his graveyard. He attempts to bring out Redox, but Alyx plays Emptiness, however Hoban uses his own Phoenix to spin the Emptiness to the top of the deck, and Alyx is forced to play the Maxx “C” in his hand. Hoban presses on by playing Debris Dragon to bring back White Stone of Legend. He turns Redox and White Stone into Scrap Dragon and uses the effect to destroy his Debris Dragon and Alyx’s set Soul Charge. He Special Summons Water from his hand and Alyx picked it up.

Game 3

Alyx takes first and sets a card before pasing.

Hoban mirrors the play.

Alyx Blasters Hoban’s set but Hoban uses Phoenix Wing Wind Blast discarding White Stone to send it to the top of the deck, and adding Blue-Eyes in the process. Alyx just passes.

Hoban uses Dragon Shrine sending Guard and Blaster to the Graveyard. He attempts to bring it out, but Alyx has D.D. Crow to banish it.

Alyx plays Soul Charge to bring out Blaster and Guard, but is met by Hoban’s Maxx “C”. He turns the two into a Spark Dragon, sets a card and passes.

6000-8000

Hoban plays Gold Sarcophagus to banish Redox and add Tree to his hand. After a considerable amount of time he decides to finally play Dragon Shrine to send Guard and Tempest to the graveyard. He continues by using Burial from the Different Dimension to put Blaster and 2 dragons back into his graveyard. He tries to use Blaster by banishing Tempest, but Alyx has a Vanity’s Emptiness to stop it. Tempest gets Hoban a Debris Dragon. He sets Compulse and passes.

Alyx swings into the Compulse and in MP2 plays Dragon Shrine. He sends Blue-Eyes and Redox to the graveyard. He banishes Blaster and Blue-Eyes to bring back Redox and adds Guard to his hand off of Blaster. He sets a card and passes his turn.

Hoban plays Kuribandit, sets a card and Excavates Water Dragon, Upstart, Trade-In, Torrential, and Metaion. He adds the Trade-In.

Alyx plays Cards of Consonance ditching Guard to open his turn. He proceeds by playing Gold Sarcophagus to banish Tidal and add Water Dragon to his hand. He plays Burial to return Blaster, Tidal, and Blue-Eyes to his graveyard. He plays Soul Charge to bring back Blue-Eyes, Guard, and Tidal. Hoban uses Wing Blast Discarding Blue-Eyes to send Blue-Eyes back to the top of the deck. Alyx banishes Water Dragon and Guard to bring out Redox and uses the Tidal and Redox to make Dracossack. He uses the effect to make two tokens, synchs with guard to make Black Rose Dragon, brings out Blaster and makes another Dracossack before passing his turn.

Hoban discards Water Dragon off of Trade-In and uses Soul Charge to bring back 2 Water Dragons, Guard, Blaster, and Blue-Eyes. Alyx has a Maxx “C”, but Hoban still continues with his play. He makes a Helipolis and uses the effect to kill off the two tokens, then he made a Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Grinder and Alyx picks it up.

Game 4

Alyx sets two and passes.

Hoban starts his turn off by playing Foolish Burial sending White Stone of Legend to the graveyard to add Blue-Eyes to his hand. Trade-In discards the Blue-Eyes and Dragon Shrine came down sending Flamvell Guard and Redox to the Graveyard. He plays an Upstart to draw into a Compulse and plays another one to draw into a Phoenix Wing Wind Blast. He discards Tidal and Water Dragon to send Blaster to the graveyard and starts making a play by banishing Water and White Stone to bring out Blaster and swing for 2800. He sets two cards and passes.

Alyx plays Shrine for his turn and sends Guard and Blaster to the graveyard. He follows that up with a Soul Charge to bring back Blaster and Guard to make a Spark Dragon. He sets a card and passes.

Hoban plays a Shrine to send a Guard and Tempest to the graveyard. He banishes Guard and Blue-Eyes to try and play Blaster, but Alyx has the Emptiness. Hoban plays Metaion, the Timelord to force Spark Dragon back to the Extra Deck.

Alyx passes his turn

Hoban draws and Metaion goes back into the deck, he just sets a card and passes.

After few turns of passing it back and forth Hoban finally tries to make a play by Phoenix Wing Wind Blasting Emptiness back to the top of the deck. He tries to make a play by banishing Tempest and Tidal to bring out Blaster and add Debris Dragon and Water Dragon to his hand. Maxx “C” is played on Alyx’s side so Hoban decides to just swing for 2800 and pass his turn.

Alyx starts his turn by playing Tree Dragon and Special Summoning Water Dragon. Hoban has the Compulse to send Tree back to his hand though. Soul Charge comes down in an attempt to bring back Guard and Blaster, and both of them are turned into a Spark Dragon.

Hoban attempts to play Blaster, but Alyx plays Emptiness, however Hoban has a Wing Blast to spin the Emptiness away! He continues his turn by playing Tree Dragon and Water Dragon, and overlaying them into Heliopolis. Burial returns Tempest, Redox, and Tidal to the graveyard, and he brings out Tempest by banishing Redox and Guard. Heliopolis uses its effect to tribute enough to wipe away Alyx’s backrow and swing over Spark for Patrick's 4th Championship Win!
