Hello Duelists! Many of you may recognize me; but for those who don’t, I'm a master angler of all sorts. As a hobby, I wrangle deadly animals that include but not limited to: Rattlesnakes, Alligators, Alligator Snapping turtles, 15+ Feet Burmese Pythons in the Everglades, and many more! I'm recently working on a Master's Degree in Herpetology. For those who don't know it's a Biologist who specializes in Reptiles and Amphibians. It's always been my dream to so, and I'm eventually going to move to Australia to continue Steve Irwin's legacy! Anyways, enough about me, and on to what I’m really here to talk about: the upcoming set - Generation Force. I recently did my research and came across a copious amount of useful cards that will change the game. In fact, this set has added an entirely new game mechanic we call Xyz summons (pronounced ik-seez); they’re a new breed of monsters that let you conduct something similar to a synchro summon with ease. When there are two or more monsters of the same level on the field, you can Xyz summon. Those monsters can be used as Xyz materials to summon a Xyz Monster whose rank is the same as the Levels of the monsters used. Each Xyz monster is equipped with a devastating effect, and can be pretty useful in Gadget decks. I don’t know about you all, but these cards are amazing!
I could write all day about these monsters; but I’m sure most of you competetive duelists are already familiar with these, so time to move on! I would rather discuss the other cards in the set that spark my interest the most: the TCG exclusives! Every set the TCG adds a few more cards to the OCG set in addition to the regular cards, and they’re usually amazing. My favorite one so far would have to be the new zombie-type monster that almost mimics Plaguespreader Zombies’ effect. This is what he looks like:
This card reads “While this card is face-up on the field, its name is treated as "Plaguespreader Zombie". Once per turn: You can target up to 2 face-up Zombie-Type monsters you control, except this card; they become Level 2 until the End Phase. They cannot be used as Synchro Material Monsters except for the Synchro Summon of a Zombie-Type monster.”
That’s right, Zombies should become viable again, and you can play three copies! The only drawback is he can only be treated as Plaguespreader while he is face-up; so you won’t be able to use the stacking effect, but to be honest it’s irrelevant in a zombie deck. The deck can play 2-3 copies of Zombie Master, and by using his recursion effect, you can flood the field with synchro monsters all in one turn! Keep in mind the synchro monster MUST be zombie-type, but that’s fine with me because you can summon Doomkaiser, Archfiend Zombie Skull, or Revived King Ha-des with ease. When you add the real Plaguespreader Zombie into the mix, you will be able to flood the field in no time!
Although he may seem enticing enough to bust out all of my zombie cards from my closet, the cards I’m looking to get are the new Fish support cards. I have been reviewing these the past few days, and I must say these cards are ridiculous! Here is probably the best support trap card offered in this set: Oh F!ish!
This card reads: “When an Effect Monster's effect activates: shuffle one of your removed from play Fish, Sea Serpent, or Aqua-Type monsters into the Deck; negate the activation and destroy the monster.” All I can really say is….wow, just wow! Finally fish-based decks can now become competitive, and this isn’t the only one that will do just that! Generation Force also includes but not limited to:
With these 3 cards added to the mix, there is no reason why this deck shouldn’t be competitive. The normal spell card in the middle is named Surfacing; it reads “Select one water type monster in your graveyard. Special summon it in face-up defense position.” This deck can play four Monster Reborn; essentially, and don’t be disappointed that they go to defense position because they still can be used as a synchro material monster or even used as a tribute!
I hope everyone has some money saved up for next weekends’ Sneak Preview! I know I will be stocking up on these very cards listed. They will be in high demand, so enter the event a few times and make some good trade offers for these, you won’t regret it! This is all the time I have for now, so until my next article (Which I can write very soon!) Happy dueling!
