Round 1 Feature Match: Matt Schriver vs. Kyle Borally

In the first round the ARG Circuit Series, Matt Schriver (Blue-Eyes Plant Dragons) is facing Kyle Borally (Lightsworn) in the feature match! Borally won the die roll and elected to go first.

 

Borally started the match activated Solar Recharge, discarding Ehren, Lightsworn Monk and milling Lyla, Lightsworn Socereres and Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner. He Normal Summoned Lumina and pitched Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness to Special Summon another Lumina! He played Wonder Wand and sent the first Lumina to the graveyard to draw two cards. Using the second Lumina effect, he pitched Wulf, Lightsworn Beast to Special Summon Wulf! During his End Phase, he milled Plaguespreader Zombie, Necro Gardna and Chaos Sorcerer.

 

Schriver began his turn by activating Sacred Sword of Seven Stars and banished Tempest, Dragon Ruler Storms and elected not to search. He set one monster and two spells or traps.

 

Borally used Lumina and pitched Lyla to Special Summon the second Lumina from his graveyard. Using the second Lumina, he discarded Beckoning Light to Special Summon Ehren. Stacking the top card of his deck, he brought back Plaguespreader Zombie and made Crimson Blader! Schriver thought for a second when Blader attacked, but let the Synchro destroy Dandylion. Schriver summoned two Fluff tokens in defense, but Wulf and Ehren destroyed both. During the End Phase, he milled Judgement Dragon, Solemn Warning and Maxx “C.”

 

Schriver drew to four in hand and immediately banished Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders for Sacred Sword to draw to. He elected not to search again. He activated Scapegoat and tried to summon Maiden with the Eyes of Blue, but took the move back once the judge pointed out it was an illegal play. He ended his turn.

 

Borally used Blader, Wulf and Ehren to destroy three Goat tokens and milled Judgment Dragon, Lumina and Solar Recharge during his End Phase.

 

Schriver summoned Maiden again and played Call of the Haunted to bring back Dandylion in Attack Mode, but then ended his turn.

 

Borally immediately tributed his Ehren for Celestia, Ligthsworn Angel and destroyed Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror and Call of the Haunted, which destroyed Dandylion and summon two Fluff Tokens. Borally send Phoenix Wind Wing Blast, Dark Hole, Jain, and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter to the graveyard. He Special Summoned Judgement Dragon and Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning from his hand! After destroying two Fluff tokens, Celestia attacked Maiden and triggered her effect to summon a Blue-Eyes White Dragon! During Main Phase 2, BLS banished Blue-Eyes. Necro Gardna, Honest, Hoolish Burial and Monster Reincarnation went to the graveyard during the End Phase.

 

All Schriver could do was Normal Summon Maiden and end.

 

During Borally’s turn, Crimson Blader killed a token, Wulf triggered Maiden’s effect and brought out a Blue-Eyes, but Judgement Dragon crashed wtih Blue-Eyes and took it down in a suicidal attack. BLS ran over a Maiden and caused first damage for 3000, but Schriver summoned Tragoedia after dropping to 5000.

 

Schriver Normal Summoned Grand Mole, attacked BLS and bounced both to hand. During Main Phase 2, he used his Tragoedia effect to steal Blader by discarding a Blue-Eyes and ended his turn.

 

Borally summoned BLS again and used it to destroy both of Schriver’s monsters. He sent in the last of the monsters to finish the game! Borally wins game one without losing a single Life Point!

 

Schriver started off the second game by banishing Tempest with Sacred Swords again and elected not to search after drawing two. He set two spell or traps and Normal Summoned Maiden with the Eyes of Blue.

 

Borally used Recharge to discard Ryko and sent Foolish Burial and Necro Gardna. He Normal Summoned Lumina, pitching Wulf to summon the same Wulf from his graveyard, and milled Vanity’s Emptiness, Book of Moon and Wonder Wand after setting one card.

 

Schriver drew to 4 in hand and banished two Flamvell Guards from his hand to Special Summon Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls and synched both into Red Dragon Archfiend and attacked Wulf, but Borally respnoded with Phoenix Wind Wing Blast.

 

Borally tributed Lumina for Celestia and destroyed the set Call of the Haunted and XYZ Reborn. He milled Honest, Lumina, Lyla and Necro. He special summoned BLS and took Schriver down to 600. He ended with a set card.

 

With only two cards left in hand, Schriver was down to just a few options. He tried to Normal Summon Debris Dragon, but when Borally flipped Solemn Warning, Schriver immediately offered the handshake! Lightsworn takes the match in a switch and flawless 2-0 victory.

 

“I’m pretty confident with my Lightsworn deck,” Borally said in a post-match interview. “I know that I have a good Dragon Ruler matchup because I can put a lot of damage on the board. I also side 3 Vanity’s Emptiness, which was the only card I sided in this match for game 2.”
