Swap Frog has been one of my favorite cards for quite a long time and as a result I have a soft spot for anything that has to do with frogs. A while ago, Fish OTK became a popular, consistent deck (thanks to Nicky Lacaille, I believe.) The deck died down for a couple of formats and only recently did someone top with a new and improved build of Fish OTK. This happened at the YCS in Providence, RI. With all of the added water support, I was pretty excited to give the deck a try, but of course I had to give it a different approach. Unfortunately, this deck lacks any major traps and only runs 3 copies of Dragon Ice as a form of protection. As a result, the deck isn't as consistent as I would like it to be. It can draw some cloggy hands and will usually require some time to set up. Without Tragoedia or Gorz, this isn't always possible and as a result, I wouldn't consider this deck to be too competitive.
I tried a version of this deck with spell cards and hand traps and without the hoard of monsters and it proved to be a bit more consistent. The main point I am trying to prove with this deck is that I think Poseidra, the Frog engine (possibly including Slushy), and Coelocanth have some great interactions.
What Triggers the Atlanteans:
3x Dragon Ice
2x Mermail Abysspike
3x Super Ancient Deepsea King Coelacanth
3x Poseidra the Atlantean Dragon
2x Abyss Dweller
What Doesn't Trigger Atlanteans:
Fishborg Planter
Swap Frog
Tips + Tricks
Fishborg Planter
Because of this cards requirements, you can't really get away with running a lot (or any) non water cards. I opt to run 1 card that isn't a water in this deck, and that card happens to be monster reborn.
Fishborg Planter has one of the most confusing effects that I have read in quite a while, but don't let it confuse you!
You can only use a Fishborg Planter effect once per turn! If you have 2 or 3 in grave… you can only use one.
You can reuse them as long as they don't miss a water with their effects!
You cannot use the same fishborg planter more than once per turn!
This card is very helpful with a lot of combos in the deck. It helps mill slushy, frogs, dragon ices, poseidras and also helps fuel moulinglacia. Fishborg Planter is also great tribute fodder for Coelacanth and Poseidra. It works great in this deck!
Swap Frog
Slushy is a level 2 aqua! you can send it to grave with swap frog!!!!!
Swap Frog is hands down the most important card in the deck. It can easily get 5 waters in grave for Moulinglacia, it can set up slushy plays, it can set up xyz plays, it can set up a bunch of frogs in grave and it doesn't even have to be normal summoned.
Dragon Ice
Do not forget that Dragon Ice can discard itself to special summon itself if it is in your hand. I did! This card is very important in this deck since you can't really run Maxx "C" and Effect Veiler.
You can only control one Dragon Ice on the field at a time.
Poseidra the Atlantean Dragon + Super Ancient Deepsea King Coelacanth
If you don't know what this card does, give it a read. It is pretty darn good, and really not even hard to summon with a swap frog in hand. It can also be special summoned through slushy. This card can pave the way to victory when combined with Super Ancient Deepsea King Coelacanth.
Let me show you the main Poseidra combo:
It usually starts off with a standby phase Treeborn Frog and a Ronintoadin or 2 special summoned from grave. All of that can be set up easily with a single swap frog. From there, you can tribute the 3 monsters to special summon poseidra from grave and bounce all spells and traps back to the hand. You can then remove a frog in grave again for ronintoadin and tribute the ronin and Posedra for coelacanth and continue with your combo!
A lot of the times, you will be winning with Super Ancient Deepsea King Coelacanth. It has the ability to special summon as many lv 4 or lower fish from your deck. There are 8 targets in the deck for it to search. If they are in your deck, you will be searching for the 4 mermails most of the time. Let me show you the main combo:
Coelacanth > Special Summon 2 Mermail Abyssmander + 2 Abysspike > Overlay 2 Abyssmander into Abyss Dweller and detach 1 Abyssmander immediately > From here you can do a variety of things thanks to abyssmander. You can leave your Mermail Abysspikes at LV4 or make them LV 5 or even LV6.
LV 4 Means another abyss dweller and that will make your field Coelacanth @3800 ATK + 2x Abyss Dweller @ 2700 ATK. That is a total of 9200 Attack points
If you decide to make LV 5s in order to play around a face up monster or a couple of facedowns, you can make Zenmaioh or adreus. That will give you a field of Adreus/ Zenmaioh @2600 ATK Coelacanth @3300 ATK Abyss Dweller @2200 ATK. That give you a total of 8100 Damage
If you decide to make LV 6s you can make a Bounzer and stop a gorz! It will give you the same attack power as the LV 5 combo, but unfortunately it isn't game through gorz.
Coelacanth also has some other (less powerful) combos if you happen to draw a mermail or two.
You can special summon 3x Fishborg Planter and any other fish and have game through an empty board.
Here is how it goes:
STEP 1
Overlay 2 planters into Daigusto Phoenix > Detach a planter > Special Summon Fishborg Planter from grave with it's effect > Overlay 2 planters into another Daigusto Phoenix and detach
That is a total of 8800 Damage! 6000 (4x Daigusto attacks) + 2800 (Coelacanth attack) = 8800
There are also some synchro plays, but they aren't too powerful because of fishborg launcher's water synchro requirement.
The next deck I have to showcase is a Nimble deck. With the release of Nimble Angler, the nimble deck got an enormous boost!
NIMBLE PLANTS
1x Card Trooper
1x Dandylion
1x Debris Dragon
2x Effect Veiler

1x Gachi Gachi Gantetsu
1x Leviair the Sea Dragon
1x Number 20: Giga Brilliant
1x Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1x Wind Up Zenmaines
I have very limited testing with this deck, but with what I have, I am pretty impressed. I'm sure with more testing I could come up with a way better build, but this is what I have for now. This deck loses pretty hard to Maxx "C" in a lot of situations, but you can say the same about Wind-Ups, Mermails, and Hieratics.
As you can see from the deck list, there are a lot of outlets to get an angler into the graveyard.
Here is a list of the cards that will trigger an Angler:
1x Card Trooper
2x Quickdraw Synchron
2x Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter
1x Foolsih Burial
1x One for One
1x Tuning
2x Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
1x Drill Warrior
Tips + Tricks
Quickdraw Synchron
Quickdraw Synchron can do some neat things in this deck.
Pitch an angler to get 2 nimbles from deck and make a Nitro Warrior
Pitch a Dandylion to get 2 tokens and make a Drill Warrior, which can then discard nimble anglers and recycle monsters!
Daigusto Phoenix
Remember that this card can let any wind monster attack twice. That means you could potentially make a Leviair, Orient Dragon, or Raiza attack twice for some extra damage! Also make sure to remember that the wind monster can attack twice every single turn!
Nimble Momonga
This card is searchable by both Nimble Angler and Super Nimble Mega Hamster!!!
Scrap Dragon v. Stardust Dragon
I opt to run Scrap Dragon because it is a more aggressive card, but Stardust is also a great choice. If you would prefer to use that card, go for it! It also has great interactions with Daigusto Phoenix, which happens to be a very easy card to make in this deck.
Extra Deck
This extra deck is very tight in this deck. I believe you could get away with cutting Junk Destoryer and Number 20: Giga Brilliant, but for now I will keep them where they are until i test some more!
And now for the final deck! Lancer frogs!!!!!! But with a different approach!

Shoutouts to Mike Powers for giving me some ideas on this deck. This deck is filled with a bunch of neat tricks, and I mean a bunch! At first thought, you may think this deck doesn't seem powerful enough, but there are some game breaking tricks in here that I want to show you.
Tips + Tricks
Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord
This is extremely easy to set up with a single Swap Frog. If you open any 2 water monsters, Swap Frog, and this, you can summon it turn one!!! There will almost never be a time where you will have too many waters. Ronintoadin, Fenrir, and Sea Lancer do a great job at keeping your grave at 5. You could probably get away with running 3 in this deck, but I really want to have the most consistent early game possible and Moulinglacia doesn't really help too much then.
Cloudian Poison Cloud
This card works extremely well in the deck and happens to be a Tour Guide target. What more can you ask for?
You can simply summon tour guide and search for Poison Cloud and that immediately sets up any Spiritual Water Art - Aoi or Creature Swap plays. It is also a water to ditch for Swap Frog's special summon effect or even for a Moray of Greed. It also fuels Moulinglacia! This card is just good stuff in this deck.
Mother Grizzly
Mother Grizzly helps with a lot of the thing that this deck plans on doing. It is a Beast Warrior for Horn, a Water for Moray, Moulinglacia, and Aoi, and a great target for Creature Swap. Keep in mind that the can search out Lancer. Not everyone knows that for some reason.
Fenrir
The singleton copy of Fenrir can put in a lot of work in this deck. It can help manage the grave for Moulinglacia, it can remove cards to fetch back with Leviair, and it can do some serious damage to the opponent. I opted to only put one copy in this build because I don't want too many early game dead hands.
Creature Swap
I can only say good things about this card. If you can somehow manage to make Bahamut Shark with this card in your hand, that is almost always going to be game. You can special Acid Golem from your grave and swap it to them and they will just lose to it's effect. Then of course you have all of the other cards that work great with this card. There are just too many, so I will list them out for you
1x Cloudian - Poison Cloud
2x Dupe Frog
1x Fenrir
1x Poison Draw Frog
2x Ronintoadin
1x Sangan
2x Tour Guide from the Underworld (they fetch sangan and poison cloud)
1x Wind-Up Rabbit
1x Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction
As you can see, this card is pretty darn good in this deck. I opted not to run three because space was pretty tight in this deck, and I felt traps were a bit more important than a third copy of creature swap.
Spiritual Water Art - Aoi
Thanks to Ronintoadin, you get to run 3x Trap Dustshoot in this deck. This card will set your opponent back quite a bit. Just imagine, you summon Moulinglacia and activate effect to discard two and they veiler. In response you chain Spiritual Water Art - Aoi. That will be a total of 4 cards discarded from their hand if you count the Effect Veiler, and it is only at the cost of Aoi and Moulinglacia!
Horn of the Phantom Beast
No one will expect to see this card in your deck and you will catch all of your opponents off guard. THis card will steal a lot of games on its own!
1x Snowdust Giant
This card is pretty much just a Fairy King Albverdich for waters. It also happens to be a beast warrior. I don't think you will be horning this card all to much, but I will at least mention it.
1x Fenrir
Fenrir + a Horn is one of the most game breaking combos in this deck. If you can connect a winning battle with a Horn attached Fenrir, that means that your opponent just lost one of their monsters, you just drew a card, and they can't draw next turn. That is some pretty good stuff!
2x Mother Grizzly
They will probably attack into it, thinking that you will search a Swap Frog or something and then you can surprise them with a horn!
2x Sea Lancer
I bet you didn't know that Sea Lancer was a Beast-Warrior!
1x Wind-Up Rabbit
There is one teched Wind-Up Rabbit in here because of the ability to tour guide into Zenmaity to get it. Wind-Up Rabbit is also a great card on its own as well so it is a great addition to the deck!
I hope you enjoyed my article this week. I am a water deck fanatic and Abyss Rising's release gave me a lot of ideas. Give these decks a try. They are all extremely fun to play with! Tune in next week for my YCS Barcelona Tournament report! Oh, and comment down below if you know where I got this article's title name from!
