The Dark World Side Deck Army

Dark Worlds. The loved and the hated, the despised and adored.

Now we all know how annoying Dark Worlds can be and how powerful they can be as well, but game 2 and 3 can make a world of difference during the match. Dark World duelists seem to have lots of troubles game 2 and 3 with running into Shadow Imprisoning Mirrors, Dimensional Fissures, and more! This is where the Side deck comes in. The side deck needs to be perfect and needs to have cards that can fight against any type of deck you are dueling against!

I myself have been playing Dark Worlds ever since the structure deck came out and have never once drifted away. I have been trying to build the perfect deck and more importantly the perfect side deck to be a competitive Dark World duelist.

Now everyone knows that Dark Worlds work very well with many cards that can be devastating to other duelists. Cards of that sort include: Skill Drain, Deck Devastation Virus, Gozen Match, Eradicator Epidemic Virus, and more. This is the part where I talk about those cards and how they fit into the deck.

Skill Drain: This card is very good against the current meta in this March 2012 format. It can be mained and sided and very irritating in matches. So many duelists are worried about running into this card when playing against Dark Worlds.  They love to use up all their Mystical Space Typhoons and Heavy Storms on this card, but they then forget that Dark Worlds still have their field spell!

Deck Devastation Virus: Read the name people. This card can be very devastating towards decks that run monsters with 1500 attack or less. It seems today that the current meta all have cards that fit into that category. Tour Guide From The Under World, Maxx “C”, Effect Veiler, Rescue Rabbit, Inzectors, and Wind-ups all fall victim to this virus.

Gozen Match: Dark Worlds as we all know are all Dark monsters so the card Gozen Match does not affect them. The current meta all seem to have different attributes besides Inzectors. This card brings wonders for Dark Worlds against match up with Dino-Rabbit and Wind-ups and even Elemental Heros. It is also very deadly with Skill Drain on the board. When having Skill Drain and Gozen Match on board you put your opponent in a position where they have to choose which to destroy first, if they even can destroy them.

Eradicator Epidemic Virus: Spells or traps. Either one you choose can tear apart your opponents deck, hand, and field. You need to have a Dark monster with 2500 or more attack on field to tribute to activate this cards effect. With Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World at 2700 attack able to summon from the grave again and again having that 2500 monster should be no problem. Two other monsters that can be tributed for this card are Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World and Sillva, Warlord of Dark World both at 2600 attack with the field spell active.

It has been six months since I have been running Dark Worlds and I have learned so much about the deck and about how to play it and how to side for game two and three to win the match!

My side deck:

3x Mystical Space Typhoon (Main Heavy Storm)

2x Spirit Reaper (For control, stall for big pushes and to get the cards you need)

1x Cyber Dragon (Wind-ups, other machine decks)

2x Doomcaliber Knight (Mirror match, meta etc.)

2x Royal Decree (Chain Burn, meta, etc.)

2x Gozen Match

1x Dark Smog (Mirror match, Inzectors, Wind ups)

1x Skill Drain (Main 1 in deck)

1x Deck Devastation Virus (Main 1 in deck)

I would like to thank you all for reading my article and I hope you have enjoyed it very much! I would also like to thank Alter Reality Games for giving me the chance to write the article as well!
