Hey Yu-Gi-Oh@ fans and ARG readers!!!! I am going to first introduce myself, sorry for this bit of boring information if you would like, you can go and skip ahead… My name is Amanda Partee (insert joke here). I am 21 from Arizona but living in Florida. I have been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! for about 4 years and also recently started judging. I thought it would be a great idea if I could start writing about Yu-Gi-Oh! and what would be a better way than doing that than writing for ARG.
Okay so now we are done with the boring stuff and on to the things that you care about, THE DECKS!!! Billy and Joe were gracious enough to give us some challenging decks, but I thank them for that because it made us all think. I wrote this article to make it as easy as possible to read trying to separate what we took out and what we put in; especially for those of you who just like to skim through and are probably not reading this section anyways. So to begin with Billy’s Rock Stun:
Monsters: 19
3 Koa’ki Meiru Guardian
3 Koa’ki Meiru Sandman
3 Koa’ki Meiru Wall
3 Block Golem
2 Card Trooper
2 Maxx “C”
2 Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
1 Neo-Spacian Grandmole
Spells: 10
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Soul Taker
2 Pot of Duality
1 Seal of Orichalcos
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole
Traps: 12
2 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
2 Call of the Haunted
2 Bottomless Traphole
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road
Extra Deck: 15
2 Gem-Knight Pearl
2 Kochi Kochi Dragon
2 Soul of Silver Mountain
1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaister
1 Gachi Gachi
1 Fairy King Albverdich
1 Gaia Knight, Force of Earth
1 Naturia Beast
1 Naturia Barkion
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Stardust Dragon
Monsters:
-2 Maxx “C”
-2 Fossil Dyna
When it comes to the monsters I tired to make the deck as consistent and competitive as possible. Maxx “C” when it comes down to it, is mainly only good for Wind-Ups this format, and pretty terrible against anything else. At best you will be breaking a +1. Maxx “C” also is not a rock so it hurts the Koa’ki Meiru engine as well as the Block Golem engine.
Next I’m taking out the 2 Fossil Dyna’s. Don’t get me wrong Fossil Dyna is a great card, but I would not feel great about maining it. With Fossil Dyna’s low stats it can be hard to keep him on bored especially when you don’t draw into your defensive traps or a handful of monsters. For these reasons alone I cut him from the main but would put him in the sideboard.
+3 Gogogo Giant
+1 Gaia Plate the Earth Giant
I went ahead and added 3 copies of Gogogo Giant because he is quite the powerhouse. With 2000 ATK for a 4 star monster he is quite incredible, not to mention his awesome effect which allows him to become the Wind-Up Rat of Rock Stun. He also works extremely well with Card Trooper to get copies to the grave to always make the copies in your hand live.
Next I added one copy of Gaia Plate. This was a simple addition for me because it gives the deck a much-needed boss monster. With maining 16 rock monster, not including himself, getting them to grave is simple in this deck and then using them to summon Gaia allows for big pushes and an answer to monsters when needed.
Spells:
-2 Soul Taker
I have never been a fan of this card even against chaos dragons or heroes. I understand its importance in the meta but as far as Rock Stun goes spot removal is not important. There is no monster in the current game that shuts down this deck, so to add this card would just be unnecessary.
Trap:
-1 Starlight Road
When it comes down to it Starlight Road is a great card but in this deck it can be easily out shined by the card that I chose to replace it. The biggest issue with Starlight Road is that it clashes with Seal Of Orichalcos. Now I am no fool and I realize that Seal will not always be on the board, especially only with one in the deck but there is no reason to play Starlight when the thing that makes it shine over its competition, can be shut it down by your very own card.
+1 Dimensional Prison
+1 The Huge Revolution is Over
+1 Skill Drain
Taking Dimension Prison from 2 to 3 seemed like a necessary choice because of the fact that in this deck you need that back row protection to keep your opponent at bay. Swapping Starlight Road with Huge Revolution was an easy switch as I mentioned before. Huge Revolution has a lot less thing that can negate it and does not conflict with other cards in the deck. Adding only 1 Skill Drain allows this deck to stop much of the meta with out slowing yours down by only truly effecting 4 cards, 3 of which will just turn into 2000 beaters.
Extra Deck:
-1 Gachi-Gachi
-1 Soul Of Silver Mountain
-1 Stardust Dragon
-1 Kachi Kochi Dragon
As far as the extra deck goes it is not extremely important for this deck, but in a tight position having the cards to go into that will get you to the next round is always a good thing. I removed Gachi-Gachi from the deck because it is impossible to make this card. Taking out 1 copy of Soul of Silver out was an easy decision due to the fact that rank 3 XYZ’s are hard to go into. After taking Starlight Road out of the deck Stardust is no longer necessary. For this deck there are better rank 4’s to go into then Kachi Kochi that is why I only feel that 1 copy is good for this deck. Now to what I put in:
+1 Scarp Archfiend
+1 Fairy King Albverdich
+2 Gagaga Cowboy
I added Scarp Archfiend because as of right now he is the only Earth Lvl 7 Synchro that has use in this deck. Bumping up Fairy King to 2 seemed pretty obvious seeming how he is one of the best rank 4 Earth monster. My Final addition to this deck is a card that just came out of the new set Abyss Rising Gagaga Cowboy. He today is by far one of the best rank 4 card to exist in the game, plus him being an Earth makes him a phenomenal choice for this deck. Here is the complete deck:
Monsters: 19
3 Koa’ki Meiru Guardian
3 Koa’ki Meiru Sandman
3 Koa’ki Meiru Wall
3 Block Golem
3 Gogogo Giant
2 Card Trooper
1 Neo-Spacian Grandmole
1 Gaia Plate the Earth Giant
Spells: 8
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Pot of Duality
1 Seal of Orichalcos
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole
Traps: 14
3 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
2 Call of the Haunted
2 Bottomless Traphole
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment
1 The Huge Revolution is Over
1 Skill Drain
Extra Deck: 15
2 Gem-Knight Pearl
2 Fairy King Albverdich
2 Gagaga Cowboy
1 Kochi Kochi Dragon
1 Soul of Silver Mountain
1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaister
1 Gaia Knight, Force of Earth
1 Naturia Beast
1 Naturia Barkion
1 Scrap Dragon
1 Scrap Archfiend
First thing that popped into my head when I saw this deck was DDT (Diamond Dude Turbo) and that is why I automatically bumped Destiny Hero Diamond Dude to 3, which I will take about in a second. Here we go with Joe’s Gishki Hero Turbo Deck, which for me personally was the harder of the two decks to change. I am going to go over this deck a little different due to the fact that the things that I took out are backed up by what I put in.
Monsters: 20
3 Gishki Soul Ogre
3 Gishki Vision
3 Destiny Hero Plasma
2 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 Trageodia
2 Tour Guide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
1 Gishki Shadow
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
1 Dark Armed Dragon
1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness
Spells: 20
3 Destiny Draw
3 Trade-In
3 Miracle Fusion
3 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Salvage
1 Gishki Aquamirror
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn
Extra Deck: 15
1 Grenosaurus
1 Melomelody the Brass Djinn
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction
1 Temtempo Percussion Djinn
1 Maestroke Symphony Djinn
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Heroic Champion Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
1 Number 11: Big Eye
1 Gaia Dragon, Thunder Charger
1 Black Rose Dragon
Monster:
-1 Gishiki Vision
-1 Dark Armed Dragon
-1 Destiny Hero Plasma
Okay so when it comes to the 1 Gishki Vision I decided to replace it with a 2nd Gishki Shadow. This decision was made to boost up consistency and to make sure you have the spell card in hand. I know what you are all thinking right now “Why did she take out Dark Armed Dragon?” well I took out this card simply because there is no grave control. With this Turbo deck you would hate to draw a dead hand or let alone a dead card, and that is why I took out 1 Destiny Hero Plasma to help make sure when you draw him he can be played.
+1 Gishki Shadow
+1 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
Spells:
-3 Mystical Space Typhoon (MST)
-1 Miracle Fusion
Switching MST for Night Beams was a vital change for this deck seeming how Diamond Dude’s effect will not activate off of Quick Play spell cards but will activate off Night Beam. Next is Miracle Fusion, with this deck being a mix of DDT and Gishki 3 Miracle Fusions is just to many. Adding Upstart was a strictly to help speed up the engine and get you to the card that you need a lot quicker.
+2 Night Beam
+2 Upstart Goblin
Next we are moving on to the Extra Deck and for this it is easier to tell you how I built and why do to the fact that I changed it so much.
Extra Deck:
+2 Elemental Hero Absolute Zero
+1 Elemental Hero Escuridao
+1 Photon Papilloperative
+1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
+1 Abyss Dweler
+1 Blade Armor Ninja
+1 Temtempo The Percussion Djinn
+1 Number 20: Giga-Brilliant
+1 Leviair The Sea Dragon
+1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
+1 Maestroke The Symphony Djinn
+1 Heroic Champion - Excalibur
+1 Number 39: Utopia
+1 Gem-Kinght Pearl
Changing the Extra Deck was I huge thing for this deck. First the original Extra had no targets for Miracle Fusion and that was a big problem seeming how I didn’t want to take Miracle out so I had to add target into the Extra deck. The next thing that I took into account was the fact that the original Extra was not very well thought out for the ease and accessibility of play. Here is the complete deck after all of the changes I made:
Monsters: 19
3 Gishki Soul Ogre
3 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
2 Gishki Shadow
2 Gishki Vision
2 Destiny Hero Plasma
2 Trageodia
2 Tour Guide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
1 Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness
Spells: 21
3 Destiny Draw
3 Trade-In
3 Upstart Goblin
2 Miracle Fusion
2 Night Beam
2 Salvage
1 Gishki Aquamirror
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn
Extra Deck: 15
2 Elemental Hero Absolute Zero
1 Elemental Hero Escuridao
1 Photon Papilloperative
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Abyss Dweler
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Temtempo The Percussion Djinn
1 Number 20: Giga-Brilliant
1 Leviair The Sea Dragon
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Maestroke The Symphony Djinn
1 Heroic Champion - Excalibur
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Gem-Kinght Pearl
After looking over both of these decks I really hope that you build them, play them at your locals and then let me know how they turned out. I had a great time writing and hope you had a good time reading.
