2 Time YCS Champion Stephan Sluis’ YCS Leipzig Report

Hi guy's, my name is Stephan Sluis and as most of you already know I just won YCS Leipzig the past weekend. The deck I was piloting was Dino-Rabbit and I will explain why I chose to do so. The reason for me playing Dino-Rabbit was because I thought it had the best match-up overall and summoning a Laggia turn 1 gets you in a really good position and can mean an easy win. I chose Dino-Rabbit over Inzektor and Wind-Up because, I just don't like inzektor as it relies to much on hornet being in the grave and loses against a Dolkka. And Wind-Up everyone was pretty much prepared for it and not going first could mean you've lost and even if it goes first if the opponent has a hand trap its pretty hard to win with it. That's why I chose Dino-Rabbit over the other 2 decks.

Day 1

Round 1: My first match up was against psychics and an early Laggia made it an easy win in game 1 and game 2 just controlled the duel with a Dino and back row and a late game Trishula won the game.

Round 2: My opponent was piloting a Chaos-Plant deck and game 1 I started Laggia and Trap Dustshoot so you know it was an instant win. In game 2 I started with a pretty weak hand but due to my opponent pretty much overextending by committing more monsters to the field and a torrential tribute  made him lose the duel.

Round 3: Was my first mirror match, he started the duel by summoning thunder king and I set a kabazauls and a mirror force to be able to summon another next turn and going into laggia if he attacked into my mirror force but in his turn he mst'ed my mirror force and summoned guaiba and I couldn't recover. Game 2 snowman eater does his job with laggia on the field for a swift win. Game 3 was pretty hard and I only had 400 LP left but a lategame chimeratech fortress dragon, laggia and 2 sabersaurus after destroying his reaper with my snowman eater won me the game.

Round 4: My first Inzektor match, I started by summoning sabersaurus and setting 3 back row he carelessly uses heavy storm and a successful starlight road won me the game. Game 2 he dominates the duel with gozen match and his inzektors and I couldn't seem to draw back row removal cards and he won. Game 3 was pretty easy by summoning a Laggia turn 1 and setting solemn warning and macro cosmos, a really hard situation for inzektor and I won.

Round 5: It was another inzektor match. Duel 1 he uses heavy storm on 2 set back row while I was controlling a dolkka and the starlight road does his job again. Game 2  pretty much an early guaiba and forbidden lance into a Laggia wins me the game.

Round 6: It was against a synchrocentric. Game 1 I won pretty easily by controlling the duel with Dolkka. Game 2 he otk me with T.G Hyper Librarian combo and I had no maxx c to stop him. Game 3 I lost even though the card advantage was pretty big for me and he summons a trishula hitting my Gorz. Then my next turn when I tried to summon rescue rabbit he used solemn judgment and next turn lost to Trishula's attack.

Round 7: It was a mirror match. Game 1 I start by summoning Tour guide that he veilered. I set solemn judgment and on his turn when he summoned his rescue rabbit I tried to negate its summon by using solemn judgment to monster reborn it on my next turn but he had the monster reborn so I lost. Game 2 an early Laggia and snowman eater got rid of his arcana force the fool won me the duel. Game 3 a sabersaurus and good back row kept the pressure and I won.

Round 8: My first and last wind-up I faced in the tournament XD (luckily). Game 1 I summoned Laggia and he just can't seem to make a comeback. Game 2 was a little hard and after making a misplay he manages to win. Game 3 an early Laggia pretty much wins me the game again.

So Day 1 I ended up being 7-1 in swiss.

Day 2

This was a really hard day because all my matches were mirror matches leading up to top 4.

Round 9: Game 1 an early Laggia by mind controlling my Sabersaurus and summoning his own and going into Laggia made me lose my the first duel. Game 2 I don't really remember how this one went but I won in the end. Game 3 I lost due to not pushing for a laggia with tourguide and solemn judgment set.

Top 32 to Top 16

Won both pretty much due to the side deck and one of my opponents attacking into my face-down Snowman eater with a Laggia.

Top 8

The match was against a really good player and one of the players I was looking out for in the top 32 also piloting Dino-Rabbit. It was a my hardest match all day and in game 3 managed to take a late game control with Laggia.

Top 4

When I had heard it was me and 3 Inzektor left I was pretty confident of me becoming the champion due to Rabbit having a good matchup against inzektor. My opponent is unfortunate enough to get a game loss game 1 and a guaiba attacking into a Tour guide in game 2 won me the duel pretty easily.

Finals

What can I say about this last duel is for one last hand card being a Gorz in game 2 costing me the duel. I pretty much got really lucky in game 3 by only attacking with any monster I topdecked. In the end I was really glad I won and after a lot of playtesting could finally see the results. The location was great and it was nice to see all my friends faces again.

The Dino-Rabbit I ran was pretty standard with 1 teched starlight road.
